Scarface Speaks On "My Homies"
When it comes to kicking the raw uncut hardcore reality raps that tell gritty, yet cautionary tales of the streets, nobody does it better than the immortal Scarface, the absolute ruler of reality rap. For the past fourteen years Scarface has consistently dropped stellar albums both as a member of the legendary Geto Boys and as a solo artist. Although Face’s work with the Geto Boys was the catalyst of his luminous career, it is his work as a solo artist that’s garnered him the most accolades as a lyricist. His solo discography reads like a litany of hip hop’s classic albums with each one going no less than platinum. This year Scarface drops his most ambitious record to date, My Homies 2, the long awaited sequel to his classic My Homies...
“With my Homies 2, I’m giving the streets what they want that raw ghetto reality,” says Scarface. “This is some of the realest shit I’ve ever done.”
Picking up where the first My Homies left off, the sequel once again pairs Scarface up with some of the best lyricist in the hip hop game. Face personally selected the MCs that appear on each and every track and oversaw every aspect of the record and appears on most of the tracks This is not a compilation album, but more like a Scarface album with a few of his friends and colleagues sitting in.
Produced by an all-star cast of platinum producers such as KLC of the Medicine Men, Tone Capone, Mr. Lee, Joe Traxx, Mike Dean, the Legendary Traxster, Mr. Mixx, Teddy Riley and Kanye West as well as newcomers Tran Chilla, Bigg Tyme, Don P of Trillville, Criminal Manne, Q-Stone and Rakesh, My Homies 2 contains some of the hottest beats that Scarface has ever spit on.
For proof one needs to look no further than the banging lead single “Never Snitch,” featuring Beanie Seagal and The Game. The controversial track puts snitches and informants on blast for their cowardly ways. Produced by Tone Capone the song has a trunk-rattling bass line and a dark and sinister piano riff that harks back to the days of Scarface classic record The Diary. On “Pimp Hard” Face is joined by Pimp-C, Z-Ro, Juvenile & Petey Pablo to spread some good old fashioned pimping on a slinky smooth track with a fat bass line and sparkling keyboards. “Deez Bitches” sees the return of Devin the Dude, who debuted on the My Homies volume one. This time he is joined by upstarts Lil Ron and Dolla Boy as they drop the skinny of trifling women. Also as added bonus My Homies 2 includes a rare remix of Common’s smash hit “The Corner” which features a blazing verse by Scareface as well as production by the multi-platinum super producer Kanye West. Other outstanding tracks on My Homies 2 include “Man Cry,” “Always,” “My Life,” “Gangsta,” “Crazy” and “Street Shit.”
“Just like the last My Homies, I got everybody that I wanted to work with on this album,” says Scarface. “I got everybody that’s hot on the streets. I got Bun B, Juvenile, Z-Ro, Petey Pablo, Devin the Dude, Ice Cube, The Game, Skip of UTP, Partners –n- Crime, Lil Flip, Chamillionaire, Eightball, Slim Thug and Lil Keke plus some of the hottest new artist in the game. I guarantee that every song on here is a certified Banger!”
