Album der "Bumpy Knuckles"-Reihe vorlegen. "American
Black Male" ist schon fertig, Freddie hat sich bei
der Produktion nicht auf bekannte Namen, sondern
auf unbekannte Newcomer verlassen.
Parallel zu
American Black Male" soll eine Compilation aller
drei "Bumpy Knuckles" Alben erschein. Dazu gibt
es dann noch einen unveröffentlichten Track mit
*Tupac Shakur*[1] und eine DVD.

Spitkicker: Did you know you are a tough guy to track down?
Freddie Foxxx: I like it that way.

SK: How are you? What have you been up to?
Foxxx: I've been good. Right now I'm in the studio working on my latest album, American Black Male. Actually, it's almost done. This will be the third album in the series and it's the companion piece to the two other albums that came out.

SK: What can we expect to hear this time around?
Foxxx: It has a lot to do with what is going on right now. I'm not into doing the same thing over again. Right now we are at war, so American Black Male is gonna deal with those types of issues. When Marvin Gaye released What's Going On it talked about the times at hand, that's why to this day people can listen to that album because it's timeless. I wanted the record to have the same type of feel to it.

SK: Any guests?
Foxxx: I do have guests but they are mostly cats a lot of people don't know about. I didn't want to work with somebody like a Kanye West or whoever is popular at the moment. I don't have anything against him, 'cause personally I thought his album was hot. It's just that as soon as one person gets a hit, everyone jumps on the collabo bandwagon and burns their s#!t to the ground.

SK: Is there a routine or method to how you put your albums together?
Foxxx: First I do my research, you know on the stuff that I want to bring to my listeners. After that is the creative part where I get the music together and start putting things in their place. The third part is getting the song together and the stuff I'm gonna talk about and how to say it. The final part is the sequencing and getting the tracks just how I want it. On my albums there is always a track for the title and it helps explain the tone of the album and what message I want to get out there.
SK: You are considered to be sort of like the rapper's rapper. Do you mind not being a mainstream artist?
Foxxx: Not at all. I could have been part of that but I chose not to compromise myself like that...Right now, hip-hop has fallen victim to corporate showboating. The minute that Clive Davis starts telling people what rap artists are hot, it's a wrap.

SK: Your reputation always precedes you. Do you feel that it is a true or even a fair representation of who you are and what you're about?
Foxxx: I don't believe in fair because what's fair to you may not be to someone else. People will use any justification for what they do or why they think a certain way about someone or something. I know that people think of me a certain way 'cause I'm not the one to grease up my lips to kiss ass and I chose to stay on the outskirts of the mainstream. I know things have happened that make me seem a certain way but it's not the full story. I'm me, there's no showbiz image that I'm putting out there.

SK: How did you come up with your self-imposed nickname, "Bumpy Knuckles?"
Foxxx: I had a fight one time and my hand swole up real big and this girl told me that my knuckles looked lumpy. I said to her that the guy I hit had lumps but my knuckles were bumpy. So that's where it came from.

SK: After you're through working on the record, what are your plans?
Foxxx: After the record drops I was thinking of releasing all three [albums] of them as a box set. There would most likely be bonus tracks, a comic book, movie, DVD...It would be like a greatest hits type compilation. I also might include some tracks with Pac and Treach that no one has ever heard... I may even hit the road. After that I may fall back and keep it moving. Just ride off into the sunset on my motorcycle...Who knows? I'm not sure what I'm doing next, but I won't be predictable.

Taking a break while mixing down his new album, American Blackman, Bump discussed everything from his affiliation with the Flava Unit ("I gave them street credibility") to his former label ("BBE sucks moose nuts. Not Hip-Hop at all") to seeing Noreaga at a BMW dealership. The biggest revelation of the chat however, is when Bumpy shared with us that his upcoming album, American Blackman, will be his final album. Much like Prince Paul, who in a chat earlier this year declared his next album will also be his last, Bump is tired of keeping it 100% with a game that isn't keeping 100% with him. He stated that American Blackman will be along the same lines of the 12" he put out earlier this ("Turn Up The Mic" b/w "Teach The Children") though neither will likely be on the album. He also disclosed that the album will feature guest appearances from Nas, Jadakiss, as well as some up-&-coming rappers and production from DJ Premier, Pete Rock, & Alchemist. And while Bumpy may forfeit making albums instead opting to go international business, he is not leaving rap altogether. He will continue to drop the occasional 12" and will make guest appearances here & there. During the chat he even explored the idea of possibly hooking up with K-Hill

Ist halt so ein Meckerfritze der gegen (fast) alles in der Industry schimpft, ich denke er könnte mehr aus sich rausholen, so richtig begeistert haben mich seine bisherigen drei Alben auch nicht. Liegt aber auch oftmals an den Produktionen die m.E. nie so richtig zu ihm passen. Auf schön dreckigen Stoupe Beats könnte ich ihn mir aber ganz gut vorstellen.

find ich gar nicht, mal abgesehen davon dass ich dem alles abkaufe was er sagt, ich glaube dem würde niemand persönlich dumm kommen, zumindest nicht 2mal

ist halt von der alten schule der typ, von den raps her einer meiner absoluten favoriten aus NY, seine alben hatten halt immer schwachpunkte.... das erste hatte super einzeltracks, das zweite ar einheitlicher, aber ohne echtes brett...

und Stoupe... naja, der kann ja nicht für jeden im osten beats machen... wenn er viel mit neuen arbeiten könnte das doch gutes bringen

seh ich auch so, industry shakedown ist eines meiner ny-lieblingsalben. ausserdem würde ich persönlich mir freddie nicht so gern auf so melancholischen beats wie denen von stoupe anhören. zu ihm passen eher treibende/aggressive beats, meiner meinung nach

@warlocc: Mit seinem ersten Album meinst du aber nicht "The Fox is here" oder ?

edit: @breach: Meine auch so schöne harte Beats wie die, die Stoupe auf der VbD für JMT gezimmert hat, auf solchen Beats wäre das glaube ich eine gute Kombination...

Ich meine sogar von '90 oder '91. Ist halt ziemlich oldschoolig.

Fand das letzte Album ziemlich schwach, bis auf die beiden ( ) DJ Premier Beats hat wirklich kein Beat mit Bumby mithalten können...Das klang alles ziemlich scheiße, wenn der Typ dermaßen abgeht und dann im Hintergrund der Beat dermaßen "dahindümpelt". Hat es nicht eigentlich geheißen, dass Premo den "Konexion" Nachfolger komplett produzieren soll? Stand glaub ich auch im Booklet von Konexion, bin mir aber nicht sicher...

ich versteh was du meinst aber fand das album dennoch gut, allein schon wegen ihm selbst... aber wieder so in die fresse produktion wären gar nicht schlecht heutzutage, soll auch ruhig wieder dem Mainstream die löffel langziehn wie er's mit Noreaga gemacht hat

bei allmusic steht sogar die FF is here ist von 89, wow...

Ist bei seinen Alben fast schon traurig wie scheiße die Beats sind. Ab und zu hat's immer mal einen Hit dabei, aber insgesamt könnte der viel mehr machen und auch erreichen. Von der Stimme und vom Flow her kann ich nicht viel bemängeln (man höre: "The Militia" )
