Aktuelles Interview (Februar 2010)

Zitat:

Q: Was it true that Suge Knight attempted to sign you to Tha Row?

Antron Singleton: I've never personally had any conversations with Suge about signing to Tha Row.

Q: Did you ever meet Suge Knight?

A.S.: I've never formally been introduced to Suge Knight. Suge obviously doesn't listen to underground gangsta rap, because I've had the bay on lock since 1996. I did however see Suge in Los Angeles county jail while having attorney visits. Suge had a bible in his hand & appeared to be a spiritually grounded brother. My attorney Milton Grimes simply said, "Suge, this is Big Lurch," & I was back off to the 3800 mainline, & Suge was back off to "High power" AKA "Isolation".

Q: Can you tell us about the song "How We Comin'"?

A.S.: I was young & eager to rap for anyone & everyone in the studio. "Black C" from R.B.L. Posse heard me & said, "you gotta get on this song!" Then Mystical walked in the door & I was like "Damn I love competition! Bring it on. It's all love. But the man's right here!" hahaha

Q: Did you get a response after the song "How We Comin'"?

A.S.: I'm a recluse. A Hermit. Whenever I would go to the store or something people would approache me. But mostly only industry cats that had the inside plug to contacting me gave me the thumbs up, Like O.G. B-Legit. That year I even went to my hometown Dallas, Texas for Christmas, & they were playing the song; But the club, "The Safari" by Bockman Lake, wouldn't let me in. Guess they didn't know me. hahaha

Q: What went wrong with the Cosmic Slop Shop album?

A.S.: The album was a fraud from the beginning. Rick Rock, Doonie Baby, & I were never friends, so we never had a bond. I only did that album to showcase my talents. I was supposed to be doing a solo album, but Mike Mosley wouldn't come to the studio to do songs with me, & Rick Rock, a notorious hater, wouldn't do a song with me unless it benefitted him. Once we signed, MCA was in turmoil. They ain't know shit about the South, the South hadn't blown up yet. They tried to make me a lollipop/clown rapper, so I walked away. Never got paid but $15,000 for everything I did on MCA records. 3 years I starved while they watered down my image. Now-a-days I'd rather my image be watered down though. The label made Doonie Baby's song the 2nd single. "Sinful", "Da Family" was the 1st. I told them New York cats "Don't Tell Me" is the song. I'm from Texas & my hood loved it. But you know how New York industry people are. The world is their culture. They're not even trying to understand your culture & your music. Real spit.

Q: How was it meeting with Dr.Dre?

A.S.: I was excited. He was telling me about a white boy he signed (Eminem) & I was telling him about me! I didn't have any songs on me that represented the true Big Lurch, but I figured; My vocals are so tight, if he really has an ear for music like he says he does; Ima get signed! He told me that he would hollar later & he never did.

Q: In the King Magazine interview Rick Rock & Doonie Baby were talkin' bad, how did you feel about that?

A.S.: I never tripped on nothing Doonie Baby or Rick Rock say, because they act friendly to my face. It hurt because I'm in prison trying to get freed while everyone bad mouths me trying to keep me broke & in prison; But Rick Rock & Doonie Baby were always haters, so It's not like I lost a friends or It's a surprise. Sometimes when I would finally come out & show my face in a club, a lot of artists & labels would tell me they been trying to get in touch with me through Doonie Baby & Rick Rock, but they told them that they didn't have my hook up; Which was a lie. My broke ass needed work too. As far as Doonie Baby telling people that I was bragging about being the best in the group. I was. How do I know? Because the people told me so. Rick & Doonie need to get their feminine ego's in check.

Q: What producer do you have the best chemistry with?

A.S.: So far; Mike Mosley. We were the Bay Area Snoop & Dre.

Q: How was it working with the late, great Mac Dre?

A.S.: Mac Dre is a gangsta God. My father lives in the Bay, so I've been hop to Dre since "California Livin" & "Too Hard For The Radio". When I finally met him, he impressed me more. Real players don't hate. He did everything in his power to make me comfortable & promote me as the future of rap. I am grateful. Mac Dre is special. He just had that personality. I wanna be like Mac Dre! hahaha! We kicked it in the studio, then everytime I went to "The Crest" & saw him; He blessed me with something. He got class. If they need me to do anything in memory of Mac Dre, all Thizz gotta do is request once. Mac Dre my big cuddie. We had a great relationship. Mac Dre actually requested to me, which was an honor, because like I said: In the Bay, when we would play cops & robbers, I would play Mac Dre! hahaha

Q: How was it shooting the video for "Fire"?

A.S.: Thizzed out. Dre knows I don't like crowds, so he kept it at a minimum, smoked kush & did our jobs. We shot the video in Fillmore (San Francisco). Real nigga's do real shit. We had a ball. I even got some pussy that night. Thizzed out.

Q: How & when did you hear of Mac Dre's death?

A.S.: I heard about Dre's death in the hole. My home girl in Los Angeles wrote me & told me. I hate that it happened in Kansas City; Because I got love for that city dog. Tech N9ne & Strange Music are outta there. And even though I don't know the blood Tech N9ne, I feel him & his city.

Q: When you got in the rap game, did you get a lot of looks?

A.S.: You gotta realize, I've been rapping my whole life, so most people that meet me already heard I was dope. They just don't know how dope. The average human is unprepared for total lyrical rap dominance, so they hate what shines brighter than them. Therefore, I can always tell a true player. As far as my looks go, I'm unconcerned what men think. All I know is that ladies love me. Ask my dick! hahaha

Q: Is the drug P.C.P. an L.A. thing?

A.S.: P.C.P. is big all over. Kansas City, L.A., Dallas, Houston, N.Y., New Orleans, many cities. I think Texas has the most abusers though. That shit all over my city. Dallas Texas. Throwed on Screw music.

Q: Whats the difference between Dallas & Los Angeles?

A.S.: In Dallas we keep it trill. Our motto is, "real niggas ain't gotta lie." My reality is enough. In L.A. they shady. They're motto is to " never tell the truth." Be the shadiest. Guess that's why I took this loss. I'm to trill for the land of the shady. Los Scandalous.

Q: Whats the difference between Dallas & The Bay?

A.S.: In Dallas, we sporadic. Spur of the moment. Operating on reflexes. In The Bay, everything is an art form. Pimping was originated in The Bay. They invented the blue prints to game. I'm proud to have Bay Area roots. I'm done with sporadic movements. Now-a-days, you gotta be a master of the game.

Q: How did you feel about that show "The Pulse", with Geraldo Rivera?

A.S.: I have no feelings towards it. I never saw it. Most people seem not to realize that I'm in prison, so I have no clue of what's being said about me over the net or T.V. My lil brother just wrote me a couple months ago & said, "This shit's gotta stop, they won't leave you alone." So here i am. Being secure with myself & my beliefe in God, I really don't feel that I have to explain anything though. Real people are watching my actions. That's all that matters. And I'm sure they see that I not only keep it G, at all costs, but I'm keeping my mouth closed & helping others when ever I can.

Q: How do you feel when people call you a cannibal etc?

A.S.: Honestly. I feel like Jesus. If you research me, you will see that I've done anything but bless people. Most songs I've done, I've done for free or for a small fee. I preach to youth about right & wrong, even buying them ice cream from the ice cream truck. I help everyone I can, even the label that released "It's All Bad" & T-Bone. I feel like, "damn Rick Rock, Doonie Baby, everybody, this the thanks I get? I blessed y'all; I worked with you & gave you a spot light!" Damn world. I neglected my own child in order to bless you with music, poems, & books. This the thanks I get? So I read the bible & modulate. Even Jesus had haters. If you threw rocks at Jesus; Who am I? So now my mind right!

Q: What was going through your mind during the trial?

Antron Singleton: I was heavily on psych meds, so my wit was slow, and my reality was dreamlike. They kept me slower than them!!!

Q: Your words are so suave, so debonair; your flow is so amazing! How do you rap the way you do?

A.S.: Thanks! I took my first poetry class at 7 years old. Many, many years of practice, and more practice. Hard work!!!

Q: What had more of an impact on your rapping: Texas or California?

A.S.: Both. Big Lurch's style was invented in Dallas, TX. and Cali broadened my mind to understanding the game.

Q: Have you been writing anything new?

A.S.: Writing is all I know! Since 7 years old, I've written almost everyday. With a few distractions.

Q: What was it like working with Peter Spirer on the documentary film "Rhyme & Punishment?"

A.S.: Peter Spirer has the extraordinary talent of making difficult tasks seem easy. There was literally no frustrations, just results. I'll work with him anytime. Thanks Peter! Your smooth like me. No drama.

Q: Did the prison try to restrain/deter you in any way during the making of the film?

A.S.: Yes! I was in the hole. Lancaster Prison kept me in the hole, attempting to alter reality by making me unavailable for business ventures. I did it moving!

Q: How big of an influence did George Clinton have on you?

A.S.: My pops was/is the ultimate 1970's/80's cool cat. So he bumped Mr. Clinton in his 70's candy Lincoln with the gangsta white walls, and 80's Trans Am FireBird; So I wanted to be cool too. I was raised on rap and funk. Candy paint, fast cars & smooth grooves.

Q: How did you meet Mac Dre?

A.S.: We both from North Vallejo. Tone Capone introduced us.

Q: Did you and Mac Dre continue talking after finishing "Fire?"

A.S.: Yeah, we both from North Vallejo. Dre the O.G. homies. We kicked it whenever I'd emerge from hiding. Lurch lay low. No one knows me.

Q: Do you recieve a lot of mail?

A.S.: Not really. I get support from strong sista's. People whom I thought were friends are nowhere to be found.

Q: Do you embrace the Native American in you?

A.S.: Yes! I'm Choc-Taw Native American & African American. To call us Indian is disrespectful. Christopher Columbus was dumb! He didn't even know where he was at. Columbus thought he was in India, so he told his pilgram buddies: look at the Indian's (This ain't Asia!). Them disrespectful tyrants began calling my people "Indians" that day forth, Natave American Aborigines are not indians. I have plans of learning to speak Choc-Taw.

Q: Who would you like to see in a show?

A.S.: Keri Hilson! But I want a private show. We could hamonize with each other, and invent some new songs & rhythms. I want to go to a Prince show though. I just wanna hang with Prince and observe. We ain't even gotta talk to each other, Prince! Just do you, and I'll study! Already! I'd love to go to an Anita Baker show and Sade. 2 very strong goddesses worthy of worship!
