Gähhhhnnn...
January 20, 2009
Its been a minute since my last actual blog on ArtOfRhyme.com. It was difficult trying to manage my own blog (and career) as well as my AOR blog. Also, I had to stop touring because I kept getting sick every time I left the country. Constantly traveling, poor eating habits, and being around smoke (plus I'm an asthmatic) takes a serious toll on you. I've been quiet on the music front outside of a few things but that's only because I've got some great things happening in the near future. Being self-managed means that I have to be an artist for awhile and then fall back to handle business. So if you don't hear from me then that doesn't mean I've fallen off of the face of the earth...it just means that I'm handling business lol.
With that said, I have finally found a good home for the Kam Moye - Splitting Image album that I've had in the works for some time now. I'll wait until everything is finalized before I reveal who, what, why, and when. I don't wanna jinx it (I can still be supastitious, right? lol). I guess patience and persistence pays off after all. I had a couple offers from labels but I honestly went with the best one on paper and the one label who seemed to believe in what I was trying to accomplish this time around. Artists usually want to go with the most popular label but if the numbers aren't right then you'll “just look good losing” - Phonte © . There are some great indie labels out there but for the most part they base everything on their key artists. So if you finish your album and so & so has a release coming out then you've gotta wait in the cut. Me and the label are working hard to lock down some bigger artists & producers for the project to give it that extra appeal. If you have any suggestions then please let me know. So expect some major surprises on it! Thanks to all of the friends, family, and supporters who encouraged me to keep pushing on regardless of any b.s. that happened. The album is FINALLY set to be released professionally and you'll be able to actually find it this time (great distribution btw)...hopefully all the music stores aren't gone up in smoke by then!!! Anyway, I hate to be vague about things but I've learned not to say too much until things are finalized (see: Grit Records, past release dates). I should be making an official announcement within the next few weeks.
Also, me and my partner in crime, D.R., (not DR Period) are working on an MC/producer project called Electric Ave. I truly believe that D.R. is one of the producers to watch out for. He's gotten love from Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, and many others. I have the same faith in him as I did when I was heavily working with M-phazes and Illmind (who both are fans of his work from what I was told). We've got some things lined up and great ideas for the record. We already have a label lined up for that project as well. You'll be surprised to see who is releasing it!
Last but not least... there is a new artist by the name of Kil Ripkin who is now affiliated with the Reform School roster. He isn't a new artist but he's new to the ears of those who haven't heard him before. A couple of months ago I featured him on my single 'Thankful' but before that he was (and still is) a part of The Coalescence (Torae, Kil Ripkin, Wally Suede, and DJ Vega Benneton). DJ Premier was a huge fan of the The Co for years. Originally from Coney Island, Kil currently leaves in Charlotte, NC and he's been a part of the fam for a minute. I always liked the fact that he speaks on life, awareness, and other topics in his music and does music for a greater purpose. Ironically, we linked around the time I was starting to record under Kam Moye so we clicked immediately. This is just the spark of things to come and hopefully he can get a much better situation and fan base after this release. So myself and DJ Fisher are working together to release his debut album, The Balancing Act, on Reform School/Domination Recordings. Make sure you add him on Myspace (which he still needs to update with a recent song lol) at myspace.com/kilripkin.
That's all for now. Check me out at
