50 Cent Offered Invitation To Gay & Lesbian Award Show

After making anti-homosexual remarks in an April interview with Playboy magazine that raised eyebrows, rapper 50 Cent is being offered an invitation to attend The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's (GLAAD) 15th Annual Media Awards.

"I ain't into faggots," 50 Cent told Playboy in the most recent issue. "I don't like gay people around me, because I'm not comfortable with what their thoughts are. I'm not prejudiced. I just don't go with gay people and kick it - we don't have that much in common. I'd rather hang out with a straight dude. But women who like women, that's cool," he said.

50, who's mother was bi-sexual, said that he was just being honest when speaking on his views of homosexuality.

"It's OK to write that I'm prejudiced," the rapper later said. "This is as honest as I could possibly be with you. When people become celebrities they change the way they speak. But my conversation with you is exactly the way I would have a conversation on the street. We refer to gay people as faggots, as homos. It could be disrespectful, but that's the facts."

Yesterday, GLAAD applauded 50 Cent's honesty in the interview.

"We applaud his honesty in talking about the murder of his bisexual mother and appreciate his acknowledgment that he is not comfortable with gay people. We know that confronting homophobia can indeed be uncomfortable," said GLAAD's People of Color Media Manager C. Riley Snorton. "A good way to start would be to attend GLAAD's annual media awards. I'd like to invite 50 Cent as my personal guest."

GLAAD did express concern over the verbiage of 50 Cent's comments. The organization said "it can be dangerous to use words like 'faggot' and 'homo' when talking about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community."

Talib Kweli is the latest to feel the sting of net downloading as a very rough version of his latest LP, A Beautiful Struggle, has found its way to the net. Upon learning that his work had been booted, Kweli posted a rather terse statement on the OkayPlayer.Com forums, promising to seek retribution by all means necessary on the person/persons responsible for the leak (which is more than likely someone very close to the recording process). Regardless, similar to his sophomore effort, Quality, this very early and skeletal version of A Beautiful Struggle shows that Kweli is furthering his transitioning from underground superstar and seeking crossover staying power. Again, while this rough draft is still in the infant stages and there's no telling what will stick to thefinal release, it is marked by commercial reaches like the Midi Mafia produced "From A Place" featuring Killer Mike, "Around My Way" which refurbishes the Police's "King Of Pain", and the club scented "We Got The Beat (Planet Rock)", which is almost embarrassing for an artist of Kweli's stature. Yet, maybe the most disappointing aspect is Kweli's reuniting effort with Hi-Tek, as after their end-to-end burner of a debut, Reflection Eternal, "Back Up Off Me" lacks the same indelible chemistry the pair shared just a few years ago. While this leak shows both a regression and a step back for Kweli as he will obviously have to rework this LP now, its not as if he'll be starting from scratch; with the sunny "It's The Ghetto" featuring /Common, Kweli comments on the props Jay-Z gave him on "Public Service Announcement" "If lyrics sold then truth be told/I'd probably be/just as rich and famous as Jay-Z/truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense/next best thing I do a record with Common Sense." The kiddie chorus and slinky snyth's of "Hold Your Hands Up High" featuring Jean Grae delivers the neck-nod and uplifting lyrics we've come to expect, same with the looking for love in all the wrong places ode "Lonely People" where Kanye West bravely lifts the Beatles tune of the same name. But with how strictly guarded the Beatles catalog is (ask Danger Mouse), it's doubtful that this essential nod will ever appear in its intended form (due to the outrageous fee the procurators of the catalog will surely ask for). While Kweli and Hi-Tek's collabo leaves much to be desired, "Supreme" featuring Mos Def will have everyone fiending for another Black Star LP. - Matt Conaway

In related news, some funny internet kids came up with the knee-slapping idea that Talib Kweli and RJD2, both disgruntled victims of pre-release downloading, would record an album together to express the dismay with downloading. In a word? It's bullshit, folks. Oh, those clever kids with their quick wit and collegiate senses of humor.

Es geht noch weiter... :ugly:

Roughly a week after denouncing bootlegging, Talib Kweli is now teaming up with Def Jux producer RJD2 to record a conceptual EP entitled, You Are Not Alone.

According to Spitkicker.com, the EP's theme will center around technology with mentions of "identity theft, the death of intellectual property and the use of technology by the government to spy on Americans" among other topics. The EP is described as "angry" and the pair are said to be recording in a secluded studio with one engineer and antiquated equipment.

The collaborative EP will be released on vinyl only and made available at tour stops and selected retailers.

How about some good news for those Okay Players? The release date for the LP, Okayplayer: True Notes Vol. 1, has been given a 5-18-04 street-date. The LP's lead-single is Skillz "Take it Back" and the b-side will be Little Brother's "On and On." Look for MTV2 to pick up on Skillz single, as the video will be filmed in early April. Also, on 5-18-04 the 3rd installment of the Okayplayer tour will be hitting the road and will feature The Roots (who will be playing new music from their forthcoming album, The Tipping Point) and will also include Skillz, Jean Grae and Aceyalone.

Necro's Pyscho+Logical Records label will release an almost unheard of 10 LP's in the span of one year. Leading off is Ill Bill's What's Wrong With Bill (5-4-2004), Sabac's Sabacolypse (6-3-2004), Necro's third solo-LP, The Pre-Fix For Death (8-3-2004) and Gore-Tex's solo-debut The Art Of Dying (9-7-2004). And in early 2005, Necro and Non-Phixion will join forces for their "Secret Society" LP. All of the efforts will be entirely produced by Necro.

Benzino's got another axe to grind on his latest dis track, which not only takes shots at the Shady / Aftermath camp, but several other popular emcees as well. On the song, which curiously sounds a lot like 50 Cent's "Many Men", Zino blasts 50 Cent with the line "50 we gave you 3, see how the Grammys treat you?". Benzino, who is the co-owner of The Source Magazine, tells XXL editor Elliot Wilson "I'll poke your fuckin' eyes in your brain / if you ever write about me in your magazine again". Shots are also taken at new targets with the lines "I'm not an Outkast, I make my music for the people", "Flex I'll drop bombs on your head", and "I'll rip the Roots out the ground they walk on / make the band play 'Taps' while I get my chalk on". The song, which surfaced earlier this week on the internet, also takes shots at "backpackers", with the line "All you backpack motherfuckers, who trying to be conscious, I want to know what the fuck you being conscious about. Stop selling out."

In other Source Magazine news, the magazine sent out a press release last week informing that the magazine is still the "number one gateway" for advertisers targetting the youth demographic, proudly proclaiming "New issue boasts over 104 pages of ads". New advertisers include McDonalds, who also have a stranglehold on the youth market with their rap themed "I'm Lovin It" ad campaign.

Wondering what's up with that new "Ms. Deja Vu" 12inch single from The Lootpack that we're selling? And why is it not on Stones Throw? The story is this.... way back in the late 1990's, The Lootpack (and all their friends from Kankick to Medaphoar to Declaime to the Liks) recorded a whole bunch of material under the supervision (and loot) of Mr. Otis Jackson Sr. - that being not Madlib, but Madlib's dad!! Ultimately, among the archives of material, the only tracks that saw the light of day were the songs released on the Lootpack's early Psyche Move EP. But Mr. Jackson has a whooooole bunch of stuff from that era, all of which is produced by Madlib, and all of which he owns the rights to. So, this 12inch, "Ms. Deja Vu", is the first offering from Lootpack's upcoming album of vaulted material, tentatively titled The Lost Tapes Of The Lootpack, due out later this year on Crate Diggas Palace records.

Wurde zwar schon geposted, dass da was neues altes kommt, aber hier
werden noch ein paar Hintergrundinfos gegeben, wie es dazu kam...

MISTER SAIGON
After recently gracing the cover of Elemental, and creating a very healthy buzz with his mixtapes and his very dope appearance on Mark Ronson's debut LP with the herb anthem, "Diduntdidunt," one of the most talked about up-and-coming NY artists, Saigon, will release his debut LP, Warning Shots, on 6-1-04 courtesy of SureShot Records. While Warning Shots is a prelude to Saigon's forthcoming LP The Greatest Story Never Told, it includes a collaboration with Ali Vegas ("We Want In") who has also signed a deal with Tommy Mottola's new imprint. Warning Shots includes production from Just Blaze, Pete Rock, Alchemist, EZ Elpee, Heatmakers, Reef, Emile and Nottz.

Juvenile has signed a deal for his UpTown Projects record label to be a sub-label of Rap-A-Lot Records...

Wacko and Skip are the only artists signed to UTP Records right now.

213 Producers
I just thought I'd do a quick post on the producers that are set to have tracks on the new 213 album, coming in June. The producer of the first single, "Dolla Dolla Bill" is Josef Leimberg, who also has another cut on there called "213 - The Gangsta Clique".
Then we got Battlecat with 3 cuts, Jellyroll has a song, of course Warren G did alot of songs (hopefully the majority), and also from what they've been saying The Neptunes, and maybe ?Timbaland?.

Hopefully, Fredwreck, Meech Weels or DJ Quik are gonna be heard on there, no word on that yet though, but we'll keep you posted. Keep it locked right here, where we keep it exclusive!

Crooked I left a message for all his fans on his official forum.

Crooked I said the following.

"There has been talk that I left Death Row because I was jealous about Kurupts album being released before my album. If that was the case I would have left Death Row a long time ago when Too Gangsta For Radio, Dogg Pound 2002, the Dysfunktional Family soundtrack, and the 2pac Nu Mixx Klazzics albums were released. My album was supposed to be released before all four of those albums. I want to congratulate kurupt on the release of his new album "Against the grain". I am glad for Kurupt and I want everyone from this board to go cop his new album and keep supporting the west coast. I don't have a jealous bone in my body I just have to do what I have to do.

Hammer News, freue mich sehr auf das Album!

Wie Wu-Famnatic.com berichtete, haben Method Man und Redman grade grünes Licht für 13 Folgen ihrer Sitcom, die auf Fox ausgestrahlt wird, gegeben.

"You got two rappers, they're just starting to blow up," erklärt Method Man. "They bought this big-ass house and are having all these parties in it, and (then) what happens? One of the rapper's momma moves in."

Die Show wird "Method & Red" heißen und dreht sich um das überall geläufige Sprichwort "you can take the boys out the hood, but you can't take the hood out the boys."
Die Komödie handelt von dem Drama und dem Kultur-Zusammenstoß, welcher folgt nachdem die beiden Rapper ihre wilde und respektlose Lebensweise in ein vornehmlich weißes, Reichenviertel in New Jersey bringen.
"Method and Red are so passionate and focused on this show, and they are so much fun to watch," sagt einer der Führungskräfte der Show, Erin Berenson. "They bring the party with them wherever they go."
