Cartoons and Hip-Hop have had an affinity for one another since the 1980s. Talib Kweli and MF Doom made this quite clear on “Old School” from the DangerDoom album where he rapped, “Rhymes stronger than Popeye with the spinach / Yeah I'm gangster like the frog on Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse / Maybe I'm trippin and it's just a cartoon to you / But I got chills when I heard how Doom flipped the Scooby Doo.” On that same Mouse & The Mask release, several cartoon voices appeared from Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. The most popular of the animated variety show are a meatball, a French fry basket and a milk shake living in southern New Jersey, The Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Master Shake, voiced by Dana Snyder, is the show’s comedic star. He’s arrogant, self-absorbed, homophobic and likes women and relaxation – sounds a lot like many rappers. The character, who frequently trickles Hip-Hop lingo into his humor ought to be a Hip-Hop ‘80s baby. The show is narrated by Philadelphia rap icon, Schoolly D. The characters make reference to rap often, and poke fun at the aspects of the culture that many of us are too jaded with to laugh at. With the recently released Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters out now, AllHipHop.com decided to have a little fun and chat with the protagonist, Master Shake – whose only serious moment comes when asked about the state of Hip-Hop.
AllHipHop.com: Congratulations on the movie; I’ve been a fan for years…
Master Shake: Yes, yes. It’s about time. A little piece of what I deserve.
AllHipHop.com: From watching the show on Cartoon Network, it’s clear that you’re a bit of a Hip-Hop fan. How did you discover Hip-Hop and what do you like to listen to?
Master Shake: I’d like to say more that Hip-Hop discovered me. They know who is down with the flow, and who is not. My…uh…my friend, my great friend MF Doom…have you heard of him?
AllHipHop.com: I have.
Master Shake: Of course you have! ‘Cause he’s big! Just like me. We attempted to collaborate on some…what should we say…what do you call them? Some albums! Records! He, however did not answer my calls, but we’ve got some other stuff out as well. We’re in negotiations with him, forcing him to do some things with me.
AllHipHop.com: I heard you on his Mouse & The Mask album with DangerDoom…
Master Shake: That’s corr – what! He put me on his album?
AllHipHop.com: Yeah.
Master Shake: That’s it, I’m suing him. He won’t answer my calls, but…I’m suing him. I’m glad you alerted me to this.
AllHipHop.com: What do you like to listen to, when you’re hanging out in the pool and such?
Master Shake: Well, I like to…I sort of make my own music. I enjoy it. I like to free…free throw, as I call it. I like to rap in the pool, letting my genitals freely flow in the water. I sort of am inspired by them; you could call them my muses. Does that make any sense?
AllHipHop.com: It does. Being a musician, why is there no [collaboration with Geddi Lee of Rush and Zakk Wyld of Black Label Society] Spirit Journey Formation Anniversary on the soundtrack?
Master Shake: Legal reasons. It was tied up. You know, when you get the BMI and ASCAP, those guys, they’re bastards. They’re the muscle. They would not meet my demands of paying three million dollars for the song, therefore they would not do it. However, we’re shopping it out to a lot of other movies. I’m trying to get them to use it in the Indiana Jones 4 movie; that might happen – for the same money of course. I think they’re thinking it over. I tied a note to a brick and threw it through George Lucas’ window. They certainly got my invoice for it. Hey, Indiana Jones, he’s got a birthday, right? What better thing than to do this song by Spirit Journey Formation Anniversary? How about this – we’ll make it that it was an old Aztec song, and Indiana Jones will discover it in the tomb? It’s immediately written into the storyline. Right?
AllHipHop.com: Is Schoolly D really as gangster as he says he is?
Master Shake: Now I do know Schoolly D, rather well. I don’t know, how gangster does he say he is?
AllHipHop.com: He invented gangsta rap.
Master Shake: Oh. [Pauses] Let me put it to this way – as I walked the streets of Philadelphia with him late one night…it was three a.m., and he handed me two copies that he bought from Blockbuster Video of the movie Sideways. So…I don’t know what two fat guys going through wine country has to do with gangsta rap. Maybe it was Napa [Valley] – Gangsta Nap [a play on Rap-A-Lot Records star Ganxsta Nip]. Uh, he has party skills; I can tell you that much. But I don’t know how many gangsters watch Sideways. I don’t know. You might have more insight on this. I don’t, you know me. Schoolly is a heavy partier though. He’s a professional, much like myself.
AllHipHop.com: He’s in the movie too, right?
Master Shake: Yes. He has a new, reworked, magnificent new theme song in the movie. It’s really good.
AllHipHop.com: He also has a song in the movie called “I Really Like Your Booty, But I’m Not Gay,” right?
Master Shake: Oh yeah, this is correct. It plays many times throughout the movie. Every time you see [show pest] Carl on his piece of exercise equipment, you’ll hear that song.
AllHipHop.com: Speaking of Carl, how does he react when the New York Giants lose?
Master Shake: Oh God…not good actually. What he does is he locks himself the house for four days. The only thing that can bring him out of the terrible depression and anger is porno. He’s basically bipolar. It’s either the Giants win or lots and lots of porno. Giants or porno. From that you know which mood he’s in – he’s about to get depressed or he is depressed. For the record, it’s not healthy to watch porno when you’re depressed. I learned that the hard way…from him.
AllHipHop.com: Master Shake, is Hip-Hop dead?
Master Shake: Whoa! That’s a good question…is Hip-Hop dead? Maybe. I say maybe. Hip-Hop needs a new shot in the arm, that’s what I say, or it’s fusing into something else. It’ll never be dead; Disco isn’t dead. Somebody’s doing Disco still. It might suck, but it’ll never be dead. It just needs a shot, right? What do you think?
AllHipHop.com: I think you’re right. I think what you guys have done for the careers of Schoolly and Doom is a good saving grace…
Master Shake: We do what we can. In these troubled times, it’s all we can do._________________ [center]  [/center]

Also dachte ich mir man kann für die Sendung mal 'nen Thread aufmachen, sicherlich auch ganz interessant für den ein oder anderen DangerDoom Hörer, das Album hat sich ja stark an den Fernsehsendungen von Adult Swim zu denen neben der Aqua Teen Hunger Force auch Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast, The Brak Show, Sealab 2020 zählen(wer weitere kennt kann sie ja mal posten, habe ausser ATHF auch nur einmal eine Folge von der Brak Show gesehen).
