'I believe that rappers and producers have a lot more influence on society and kids sometimes more than the parents do. I put together a music movement to take some of these young guys that have all this tremendous talent but also that was really ingulfed by the streets and that was doin' a lot of destructive things.' Michael 'Big No Love' Carraway formed CWAY Muziccore to be part of the solution, instead of the problem. The problem, Michael Carraway says, is 'ÖIf you not with the way, you in the way'. Michael 'Big No Love' Carraway began his rap career as one the original members of the Northern California rap group 'Triple Threat Three' back in 1983. After being a cellmate with Sacramento rap legend X-Raided, Big No Love assisted X n started Madman Records. They claim credit for the debut of artists such as T-Nutty, and they put several projects together such as 'The Initiation project'. Forming CWAY Muziccore with his son 'micheal Sav Sicc carraway' (who is now the C.C.O. of the label) and his godson, 'Young Bleezo', CWAY has become the new millenium power house label from Sacramento.
Young Bleezo (aka Brandon Wade) joined the rap group 'TRUAMA UNIT' along with brothers Skari Stunnmaire (aka Askari Morris), and Sav Sicc. 'I realized rap was my movement when I was like 7 years old listening to my cousin. He use to come home playing and rapping to that sh!t. I use to try to put some words together. Actually he was the first person I chewed.'. TRUAMA UNIT co-member Skari Stunnmaire has been in the game for just as long. 'I been rappin ever since I was a seed. My cousins used to write verses for me because I wasn't able t read and write yet. I started taking it serious when I realized that one of my sister's boyfriends was 'Tre8'. He realized we had talent so we put out a group album out.' Currently, TRUAMA UNIT is working on pushing their compilation album called Death Threat, then the're going to drop the TRUAMA UNIT album, then solo projects between doing a lot of shows on the road.
Female rapper 'Pain' (aka Shampel Jackson) is a CWAY artist by way of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She considers herself a product of 'Northside Native, from the 55411 Projects'. Pain came to the (916) to put 16 Bars on the No Face Killers 2 Compilation from Black Market Records almost a decade ago, and 'Ö.I met a couple of people the first day I got to the Market, G-Macc, Tre8, K-5. We politicked, and G-Macc became my two-way (cell/pager) partner. He told me you can't concern yourself with everything that their doing. G-Macc suggested that I ride with him because I'm guaranteed to get my album out; guaranteed to get out projects if I rolled with him.' Pain has performed with Run-D MC, LL Cool-J, The Fat Boys and Joeski Love. 'I've seen soldiers come and go.'.
G-Macc is a producer under the CWAY label, laying tracks since 1989. 'I dropped my first album Underground Hitlist in 1995 the same day that Lynch dropped 'Season of the Sicc'. ' G-Macc (aka Brandon Elston) describes his production style as a 'Night-time approach'. His trademark is a 'Dungeon state of mind'. 'When I start creating my beats, it's kind of a Season of the Sicc type thangÖsomething dark, horror-like.' G-Macc wants to let all of the industry feel his frustration. 'Man, the industry is basically fucked up. They got weak n!ggahs out here makin' weak beats, and trying to make it big off this new weak sh!t that's out now. All that Lil Jon shit, Ying Yang TwinsÖthose are beats made back in '87. We use to make beats like that way back in the day. That's old, played out.'
CWAY artist '2Heated' was born in Culver City in Southern California, but has lived all over California. 'I stayed in Watts, Hayward, San Jose, but all of my teenage years was in Oakland. I went to elementary school in Sacramento.' 2Heated (aka Anthony Golston) is a multi-talented personality under the CWAY banner. 'I'm an artist. I'm writing, studying, surviving, staying out of jail. Getting educated on real issues. Currently, my focus is on my album called 'The StormÖFlammable contents under pressure'. I been on a lot of compilations, underground compilations like 'Unsigned Savages', 'Isolated in the Game Part II' and all different kinds of projects with 'Chilli Powder'and different rappers in the industry.'
Another CWAY artist who wears several hats in the organization is 'Mr. Cyco' 'Basically, I take care of everything when it comes to venues, making sure that they happen, making sure that all of the paperwork is properly taken care of, making sure that everyone is aware of what's going on such as knowing what their job is and what my position is in any C-way activities.' Mr. Cyco (aka Chris Thompson) is also a well known Sacramento artist, but he is moving towards the production side of CWAY Muziccore, being responsible for the logistics and the details. Cyco met No-Love in 1982, back in the 'Triple Threat Three' days. 'Then a few years later, I got in touch with Big No-Love. We started hanging out and doing some music.' Big No Love invited Cyco to come aboard and help them out with the connections necessary to help C-way in the industry 'Öand I was more than willing to do that. You know, it's all for fun. I love to do it, I love music. That's basically what I'm doing with C-way.'
