Supastition's Return!

Zitat:
Big Things Poppin…

Supastition is currenly working on his upcoming EP, 'Leave of Absence'. The 'Leave of Absence' EP was originally slated for a April '07 release but the release was pushed back due to Supa and Mrs Supa being involved in a car accident and totaling his car back in February. "It set me back a little but I'm back in the lab and getting focused again. Things could've been alot worse so I'm just grateful to be here," stated Supastition. The first leaked single from the release is the Khrysis-produced 'Word Has It' which has received rave reviews and a great response. The single is available for download on Supastition's Myspace page at myspace.com/supastition. Other production on the project will be handled Anthony Accurate, DR, M-phazes, Analogic, and Madwreck. 'Leave of Absence' is a limited edition EP that will be released digitally on August 28 and then available exclusively through Supastition.com in late September.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE Press Release

After a brief hiatus from recording to tour internationally, Supastition returns with his Khrysis-produced single, Word Has It, from his upcoming digital EP entitled "Leave of Absence" (Reform School Music). "Word Has It" has already been buzzing on major stations such as Hot 97 in NYC (Real Late w/ Peter Rosenberg) and Charlotte's own Power 98 WPEG as well as numerous national college radio stations. Supa's upcoming "Leave of Absence" is slated for a September release date and has received the stamp of approval from some established names in the industry. Instead of working with the usual producers and artists featured on his previous releases, Supa opts to work with a different team of talent this time around. Production on the EP is handled by Khrysis (HOJ), D.R. (Little Brother/The Others), Marco Polo (Masta Ace, Kool G Rap), Madwreck (The Others/Supastition), and and a few others. Guests appearances include Torae, Finale, and Dan Johns. The project will later see a limited edition CD release as in addition to Supastition t-shirts, 7" vinyl for 'Worst Enemy", and a free mixtape.

Zitat:
Going into this upcoming year of 2008 has me facing alot of challenges personally as well as professionally. I've made a conscious decision to work with good people rather than who is popular or everyone's favorite. There comes a point where you just have to separate yourself from my certain types of people in order to move forward. I've watched how other groups and crews have parted ways in the past after plenty of backstabbing and trash-talking behind each other's backs. I realize that diehard fans aren't always fans of progression or change so its sort of a double-edged sword. At the end of the day, they (real fans) don't care about beef, arguments, egos or none of that...they just want good quality music. As a music supporter, they have every right to. But realistically, there are people out there who are STILL waiting on a reunion album from Pete Rock & CL, ATCQ, and Little Brother (w/ 9th) even after hearing their reasons for breaking up. As sad as it is to say, all of our hip hop heroes aren't exactly the greatest people to be around (speaking in general) nor do they always click outside of the studio. If there are small problems bubbling under the surface then you can be damn sure that it's going to explode once you throw some limelight and money into the equation. For example, you could've always had a strong dislike for your homeboy's unprofessionalism (always being late or MIA), arrogance, or his tendency to make some greasy comments to other people about you. But when you start making a little money, you are more motivated to speak up and call your homeboy out because its your ass/career on the line too when he screws up.

Anyways back to the topic at hand... I'm working hard to build a strong team with my Reform School imprint. Sometimes close friends aren't always the best people to go into business. Whether it's producers, artists, graphic designers, publicists, or whatever.... I'm trying to surround myself with people who have the same common goal and passion to further themselves as well as being level-headed and open for criticism. (If you are interested in a position in graphic design, promotions, or production for the label then please email reformschool.music@gmail.com). I've had situations where producers would be envious because I would mention another producer more than them in an interview. Even situations where business-related friendswould feel akward if I chose to work with someone else rather than them. That's just a few of the things I've seen over the course of time from working with people.

I'm proud of everything that I've done thus far but I'm at a point where I want to say and do a little more with my music. That was one of the main reasons why I wanted to do an album under my real name (Kam Moye). I've felt limited when recording as Supastition because alot of people assume or expect me to be angry on every song. There was a time when I was an angry dude because of situations around me but that's old news to me and my everyday life isn't filled with the same people and bullshit. Some people only wanna just hear me rap about being broke or rap about rappers. Leave of Absence marked the end of that phase for me. With this new project, I'm speaking on more social issues and and trying to address topics that most people wouldn't. If you liked Fountain of Youth, A Baby Story, and joints like that then you'll probably dig the 'Kam Moye' record for the most part. I've got a story to tell and there is alot more about me than what people have heard up until this point. Recording a song about my disapproval of the war isn't out of character for me because when I was in high school, my mother and stepfather were both in the military and got shipped away at the same time during the Gulf War. I was without my parents for a long time and was forced to live with relatives. Certain things hit home to me that I chose not to speak on before. So this time around I'm actually coming with some substance and concepts. I made the decision to do this project after going to different places all over the world and realizing how many people you've touched and inspired through music. Me and M-phazes have knocked out some incredible joints together so far and there are many more to come. So for the record, the next project will be recorded under Kam Moye rather than Supastition. There's more Supastition music coming but I'm focused on making this new project something to talk about. More details soon....

Zitat:
Lately I’ve been hard at work on this new Kam Moye (not Supastition) project. I finally came up with a title for the album and it will be entitled ’Splitting Image’. The title is a play on the word ’spitting image’ because I’m still visually the spitting image of Supastition but I’m splitting away from the typical songs and subject matter that I’ve been known for. I’ve gotten emails from people saying they didn’t understand why I changed my name. Those people are guilty of skimming through my words instead of actually reading them. I NEVER said that I was officially changing my name, just going to record a project under my real name. If Zev Love X can be MF Doom, Viktor Vaughn, and King Geedorah... If Kool Keith can be Dr Octagon and Dr Doom... Can I put out a record out as... myself? lol. Just think of it as an alias... that’s not really an alias. I’ve heard rumors that I don’t have rights to use my name anymore and all types of craziness. Don’t believe any of that!

Moving on... I’m pleased with alot of the music that I have recorded up to this point for the record. I don’t want to give out too much info on it because song titles, producers, and all of that can change. I’m not making ’Splitting Image’ to exclusively appeal to the same fans who listen to Supastition albums but I’m sure there will be a few who will love it and those who will dislike it! There’s alot of conceptual songs on it and I’m speaking on things that aren’t really the norm for a hip hop record (well at least the ones that I’ve done in the past). I’m addressing topics like interracial dating (being from a small town.. u know how that goes), depression & suicide, racial stereotypes, becoming a teenage parent and the mistakes you make (I was a father at the age of 16), and many other things. Minus one song (which still has content), there isn’t much random rapping going on. After meeting people from all walks of life, I felt like I needed to create music that could reach those same people who don’t feel like there is music that speaks directly to them. I don’t expect everyone to be able to relate to the album but if one song speaks on your personal experiences and you can relate then I feel like I did what I had to do. I would hate to even label it conscious because this is my personal life but I’m sure some will deem it as being that way since all music has to be categorized nowadays. It’s not really an underground album so to speak. If you have hundreds of preconceived ideas of what hip hop or betteryet my music should sound like then you might wanna skip this one! No silly labels of it being grown man, conscious, the best shit since Illmatic, or none of that... No anger, no venting, and no rapping about how bad the state of hip hop is. It’s my personal thoughts, opinions, and experiences with music behind it.

Okay I can see people reading this right now saying "man... fuck all the content...who did the beats????".... haha. Let me speak on the producer and guest situation so we can get this out of the way. Once again, this is NOT an official Supastition album so please don’t expect to see the same producers and guests this time or you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I reached out to alot of new producers this time around including a few that I have worked with in the past. You won’t see alot of past producers. Some producers are extremely busy, some don’t make beats that would fit the vibe, and some I just don’t work with anymore. I know we are in the age of 20+ guest appearances and 10 producers on each album but I want the main focus to be on the substance & content rather than the guests. There will be some bigger names on the record but only because they fit the concept of the song and not because they just spit a hot 16. When I started my label (Reform School), my main focus was to not do the norm or follow the standards of the industry. Not so much to be different but to do what I truly wanted to do without someone else tampering with the ideas. Sure it may cost me some popularity (the ’wee bit’ I have... lol) and fans but at the end of the day I will be able to say that I’m pleased with everything that I’ve done. That’s one reason why I have the utmost respect for artists such as The Roots and Outkast because each time they aim to step outside of the box and encourage individuality in music (in my opinion). So will people like Splitting Image and accept it for what it is? Who knows... but when it’s all said and done I can say that I spoke on things that meant the most to me and hopefully to someone who has been through what I’ve experienced. Overall I think so far it’s an outstanding album. And after this album... the Supastition & Illmind album will be officially in the works.

Zitat:
January 20, 2009

Its been a minute since my last actual blog on ArtOfRhyme.com. It was difficult trying to manage my own blog (and career) as well as my AOR blog. Also, I had to stop touring because I kept getting sick every time I left the country. Constantly traveling, poor eating habits, and being around smoke (plus I'm an asthmatic) takes a serious toll on you. I've been quiet on the music front outside of a few things but that's only because I've got some great things happening in the near future. Being self-managed means that I have to be an artist for awhile and then fall back to handle business. So if you don't hear from me then that doesn't mean I've fallen off of the face of the earth...it just means that I'm handling business lol.

With that said, I have finally found a good home for the Kam Moye - Splitting Image album that I've had in the works for some time now. I'll wait until everything is finalized before I reveal who, what, why, and when. I don't wanna jinx it (I can still be supastitious, right? lol). I guess patience and persistence pays off after all. I had a couple offers from labels but I honestly went with the best one on paper and the one label who seemed to believe in what I was trying to accomplish this time around. Artists usually want to go with the most popular label but if the numbers aren't right then you'll “just look good losing” - Phonte © . There are some great indie labels out there but for the most part they base everything on their key artists. So if you finish your album and so & so has a release coming out then you've gotta wait in the cut. Me and the label are working hard to lock down some bigger artists & producers for the project to give it that extra appeal. If you have any suggestions then please let me know. So expect some major surprises on it! Thanks to all of the friends, family, and supporters who encouraged me to keep pushing on regardless of any b.s. that happened. The album is FINALLY set to be released professionally and you'll be able to actually find it this time (great distribution btw)...hopefully all the music stores aren't gone up in smoke by then!!! Anyway, I hate to be vague about things but I've learned not to say too much until things are finalized (see: Grit Records, past release dates). I should be making an official announcement within the next few weeks.

Also, me and my partner in crime, D.R., (not DR Period) are working on an MC/producer project called Electric Ave. I truly believe that D.R. is one of the producers to watch out for. He's gotten love from Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, and many others. I have the same faith in him as I did when I was heavily working with M-phazes and Illmind (who both are fans of his work from what I was told). We've got some things lined up and great ideas for the record. We already have a label lined up for that project as well. You'll be surprised to see who is releasing it!

Last but not least... there is a new artist by the name of Kil Ripkin who is now affiliated with the Reform School roster. He isn't a new artist but he's new to the ears of those who haven't heard him before. A couple of months ago I featured him on my single 'Thankful' but before that he was (and still is) a part of The Coalescence (Torae, Kil Ripkin, Wally Suede, and DJ Vega Benneton). DJ Premier was a huge fan of the The Co for years. Originally from Coney Island, Kil currently leaves in Charlotte, NC and he's been a part of the fam for a minute. I always liked the fact that he speaks on life, awareness, and other topics in his music and does music for a greater purpose. Ironically, we linked around the time I was starting to record under Kam Moye so we clicked immediately. This is just the spark of things to come and hopefully he can get a much better situation and fan base after this release. So myself and DJ Fisher are working together to release his debut album, The Balancing Act, on Reform School/Domination Recordings. Make sure you add him on Myspace (which he still needs to update with a recent song lol) at myspace.com/kilripkin.

That's all for now. Check me out at www.supastition.com and add me on twitter.com/kammoye. Twitter seems to be the new addiction!

Kam Moye (aka Supastition) - Splitting Image ft Neenah (Musikvideo)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpTh_54seH4

Zitat:
The official 2nd single, Splitting Image, from Kam Moye's album of the same title. The song was produced by Symbolyc One (S1) of Strange Fruit Project and features Dutch vocalist Neenah. The song is about the hardships you go through early in life and how they shape and mold who you are later down the line. It's saying you can't change your beginning but you can always change the ending of your story.

Good News and Bad News
For those who have been asking for updates on myself and my album. Kam Moye is longer an artist on MYX Music Label. As of a few months ago, MYX Music is no longer in business from my understanding. At this point my album is kind of lost in the shuffle and I am hoping to get things resolved as far as rights to the music go. The mother company ABS-CBN took some serious losses in the past year so they cut off finances for it's smaller subsidiaries including the label. It was beyond my control and nothing could have prevented it. More than a few artists lost their deals. I've dealt with a similar situation before when Chain Letters in 2005 was released and two or three months later the distribution company shut down without warning. That's just the way the ball bounces. Hopefully things will work out for all parties. I wish Karim Panni (label manager of MYX) all the best in his new endeavors. There will be no more singles or videos off of the album. Thanks to those who supported the album. I am grateful for the opportunity regardless.

At this time, I have no plans on recording another professional solo album as Kam Moye or Supastition. This decision isn't based on my recent situation with MYX Music but based on the state of the music industry and where it's going. It wasn't an easy decision for me but I felt that it was the best choice. I've sacrificed a lot of money and time and it's just not worth it to continue with it the way I have done in the past. All isn't bad news though... I have enough unreleased songs saved in the stash at this point to compile a few more albums. With that being said, I'm going to put those songs together and make them available for free download as soon as I can get clearance from the producers and guest artists involved. There is no release date and there won't be one. There will be no labels or promo involved. Whenever I can get the okay from everyone involved then I'll put up a link on my site, Facebook, etc... It's as simple as that. Not to mention, I have recorded close to 100 guest appearances in my career so I'm sure they will continue popping up on the internet throughout the years. There are some other MC/producer projects that I already had in the works with Dela (from France), D.R. (Electric Ave), and Madwreck. I'm a man of my word so I will make sure that those projects are finished and completed. I've been left hanging way too many times by people that I've worked with in the music industry so I'd never do that to people I respect. I mainly chose to do projects with them based on their talent, loyalty, and just being good people and friends in general. The collaboration project with Dela may be released on CD/iTunes depending on what he decides to do with it but the other two projects will be free releases. Also, I just provided DJ Concept (Bash Brothers) with over 70 songs to release in a Kam Moye/Supastition mixtape series in order to help distribute the remaining songs in my catalog.

Although I'll always write and record music, I have no interest in to pursuing it professionally anymore as an artist. 5 record deals, 3 albums, 3 EP's, 5 videos, 12 countries, and 40+ U.S. cities is more than enough for me to be proud of. I know some people will wonder why can't I still just make music? The truth is that I have never “just made music” because most of my career I have managed myself (until recently), booked my most of my own shows & tours, found my own record deals, found my own producers, and most recently recorded my own music. That takes a toll on you and your personal life after awhile. Out of all those duties, I spent the least amount of time rapping and recording music. With music being technically free nowadays, that's way too much effort for the results I've seen. Waking up to see a blog giving away your entire discography for free followed by a single sentence saying "support the artist" is a very humbling thing to see when your rent is due. That's not bitterness, it's just today's reality... I'm at peace with that. I'm going to make sure that the rest of the music in my catalog will reach those fans who have supported me over the years. This isn't some corny retirement speech or "I quit" rant... just me personally giving you an update on what to expect and what not to expect from me. I'm sure people will interpret it any way that they like though. I had originally written a lengthy and personal message breaking down a lot of things but I realized that nothing on the internet is personal anymore. Thanks all of those who have supported and all of you who will continue. I'll update you on things as soon as I can. Hopefully you will enjoy the rest of the music and if not then you have more than enough music from me already. Peace and respect y'all.

-Kam Moye (Supastition)
