D.V. alias Khryst
Who took part in hiphop during the area of 1995 to 1998 couldn’t have missed his name. DV appeared on Smooothe Da Hustler’s debut album “Once Upon A Time In America”, the soundtracks of “Nutty Professor” (Eddie Murphy) and “Black Mask” (Jet Li). The “Lyricist Lounge” wouldn’t have been authentic in 1998, if DV would have been missing. Being on european tour, he teamed up with 58 Beats (Main Concept), to realease a collabo track with i.e. Samy Deluxe. Did I mention his releases with Method Man (produced by Scott Storch), Ice-T, Bobbito, Clark Kent, Adam F,… All these releases sound like DV is a super star! Nawgh, he’s not. He is DV, and that’s just it. Ground standing and original. Brownsville, Brooklyn.
You appeared on the screen when Smoothe The Hustler came with “Once Upon A Time In America”. What have you done before that and who were your surroundings?
It started with Smoothe Da Hustler period. He introduced to me to the game in a major way.
Google’ing, it’s easy to find out, why you call yourself Khryst. But what does DV stand for?
Deep Voice or Da Voice or Destine Victory!
Your style is a combination of rhyming and singing. Who inspired you to do that?
God! And groups like the Force MD’s and Melly Mel and the Furious 5.
You came with this style at the same time i.e. Trigger Da Gambler and Lord Have Mercy came. Didnt you compete with each other?
There isn’t any competion when it comes to me. I’m in my own world and know does this the way I do it. Period. Trigger’s style is different from mines and so is Lord Have! So there you have it.
You have been highly requested for features, from Smoothe to De La, but we have never heard a solo album from you. What was the reason?
I’m smart! I rather wait for the anticaption to build oppose to just dropping because I can. I want people to really wanna hear an album from me. So now I’m on my grind trying to eat. That in a major way…
You have been on Maseos label. What happpened there?
We just figure it was best that we parted ways. But love is love, I love Maseo and he showed me alot about the business from a whole other stand point. De La Soul was the first HipHop CD I brought “three feet high and rising” so for me being able to rock on the same stage with those guys was an honor. And I thanks them so much for that…
How far are you involved with SMG (Sex, Money & Guns)?
Since I was a kid. It’s bigger than music. Alot of my brothers died with that SMG tattoo. To me it has nothing to do with music. It’s about strength and family…
What are you up to at the moment and what are you working on?
I’m working on dropping my albums right now. “The Day Before”, “Day Of Return” and “Melody Is King” – I have 3 albums ready to go! And a hot new single entitled “Swag Tag” featuring my brother Retsam Gillette. Just be on the look out for Dynazte/Govarmynt Ent., Dangerous LLC, YNVS Ent. And R.T.P Enterprises…we coming! Check out my websites www.dynazte-entertainment.com and www.myspace.com/dvaliaskhryst – it’s the Govarmynt!
Hey, this brings up another question! What if the albums won’t be successful? Do you have a plan b for that case?
My plan a is my plan b. It means – I fantasize – I do more than just rap and sing and there’s more avenues for me in the music business than just being an artist. I feel that people should stick to their dreams, could you tell a doctor what’s going to be his plan b if being a doctor doesn’t work out? *laughs* I think for him, he going to say to himself “I’m going to make this happen no matter what because this is my dream”. My destiny is in god’s hands and god wouldn’t bring me this far to allow me to fail at any cost. Great question though, First time anybody asked me that…
