ODB Album Delayed Over Legal Battle With Damon Dash

Ol' Dirty Bastard's long-delayed posthumous album, A Son Unique, might not see the light of day anytime soon due to a monetary dispute between Damon Dash and the late rapper's estate.
According to the New York Post, Jarred Weisfeld, ODB's former manager, and the rapper's widow, Icelene Jones, claim in papers that were filed in Brooklyn Surrogate Court last month, that Dash still owes "a couple hundred thousand more" on a contract he signed with the estate...

Dash, who owns the rights to A Son Unique, reportedly only shelled out $1 million to ODB.

A Son Unique was scheduled for release last month but has yet to hit shelves. ODB (born Russell Tyrone Jones) begun working on the album in 2004 but died from an accidental overdose while recording it.

"If money is still owed to the estate . . . Mr. Dash does not intend to pay them and will drop his plans to release the record," Icelene stated in the aforementioned court papers, which are part of an ongoing battle over ODB's estate.

She also claims Dash has failed to turn over his documents related to the deal. Dash's spokesperson would offer no comment when contacted.

As SOHH previously reported, Icelene is fighting Weisfeld and ODB's mother, Cherry Jones, for control of the deceased Wu-Tang member's estate. She alleges that ODB's mother helped herself to hundreds of thousands of her late husband's cash."

"It appears that $200,000 to $500,000 of funds belonging to [ODB] may have been misused or be owed by Cherry Jones to the estate," Icelene charged in the court papers.

"That's the most retarded allegation I've ever heard in my life," Weisfeld told The Post. "Icelene knows where all that money went - it went to Icelene. All Dirty did was take care of her."

A Son Unique, which was to be released via Damon Dash Music Group, features appearances from Macy Gray, Missy Elliott, RZA, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, N.O.R.E., Pharrell and Clipse, among others.

B.G. Introduces Chopper City Boyz' Debut

New Orleans native B.G. will introduce The Chopper City Boyz' debut album We Got This on his Chopper City Records imprint this February.

B.G. has helped The Chopper City Boyz (Sniper, Hakim aka Hakizzle, VL Mike and Gar) develop a following by featuring the group on four of his last studio albums that were released through his Chopper City imprint, which is marketed and distributed by KOCH Records.

"After being in the game for 12 years, I'm introducing my new group," B.G. said in a statement. "The Chopper City Boyz are the next step in the Chopper City movement. Since the breakup of my super group, The Hot Boyz, there's been a lack of talented real Hip-Hop groups from the South. The Chopper City Boyz are gonna change all that."

The first single from the album is "Make Em Mad," which features The Chopper City Boyz and B.G. The single was produced by Mississippi producer and rapper, David Banner.

"I'm the s**t on the boards and this is the first part of my take over [on production]," David Banner told AllHipHop.com of the single. "I'm sick of playing!"

As a member of Cash Money Records' group The Hot Boyz, B.G. helped usher in a new Southern sound in Hip-Hop along with former group members Lil' Wayne, Juvenile and Turk, who is serving 10 years behind bars for weapons charges stemming from a Jan. 2004 shootout with Memphis SWAT Team members.

During his stint as a member of The Hot Boyz, B.G. was featured on critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums like Get It How U Live (1997), Guerrilla Warfare (1999) and Let 'Em Burn (2003).

As a solo artist, B.G. had a massive hit with the single "Bling Bling," which was taken from his 1997 album Chopper City in the Ghetto. The term, which is slang for expensive jewelry, eventually made its way into the Oxford English Dictionary and Websters dictionary.

We Got This hits stores February 27th 2007. Below is the album's tracklisting:

1. Intro - Ziggy
2. Taking Over - Hakizzle, Sniper, VL Mike, Gar

Proof Lives On, New CD Set To Hit Shelves Next Year

An album recorded by slain D12 member Proof is slated to be released next year on the Detroit based label Iron Fist Records.

According to Iron Fist president Cleveland Hurd, who recently spoke to The Detroit News, the album titled Time Will Tell, will feature eighteen tracks written and recorded by Proof during a 24-hour period in January 2006...

Hurd divulged that Proof was challenged by his friend, DJ Jewels Baby, to write and record an album in one day. The Iron Fist head also revealed he plans to premiere a film of the recording process at Detroit's Star Southfield on March 8 before releasing the album.

"The world was cheated," Hurd told The Detroit News. "They never got to see this side of [Proof]."

Time Will Tell was recorded at Jewels' home studio on Detroit's west side.

"It shows how serious Proof was about recording," explained Jewels, who claims they started recording at midnight and never slowed down. "As soon as he came in, he went to work, and he didn't stop until time was up."

Proof (born Deshaun Holton) was shot and killed by Mario Etheridge after getting into a heated exchange with his cousin, Keith Bender, at Detroit's Triple C's nightclub on April 11.

Etheridge was charged with two weapon related felonies and not the rapper's death.

Detroit Rapper Trick Trick To Sign With G-Unit?

After leaving Universal Motown, Detroit rapper Trick Trick recently revealed that he was on the verge of signing to G-Unit Records.

According to a feature in the Detroit Free Press, Trick revealed that a deal is expected to be solidified in early 2007 and that his album through G-Unit could hit stores as early as July. Trick told the Free Press that the bulk of the album's material has already been completed, including guest spots by Eminem, Tony Yayo, Young Buck, Ice Cube, WC, Young Jeezy, Kid Rock and production by Dr. Dre...

"Out of 50 Cent's own mouth he told me: 'Trick, you're an artist that people gonna listen to because they know that what you say is real. All over the country, they respect you in the streets. So you need that priority at a label to be pushed right to sell 4 and 5 million records,' " Trick told the Free Press. "So to have a person like 50 Cent who did, what, 11 million, 15 million records, tell me eye to eye something like that, it helped me to know that I will be important instead of just another notch in the belt for a record label. Plus G-Unit Records is like a family. It's not just a record label."

Sha Money XL, president of G-Unit Records confirmed to SOHH that the two parties had a conversation discussing a potential deal, but did not say the rapper was signed yet.

Trick's last LP, The People vs. Trick Trick only sold 56,000 units according to Nielsen's Soundscan. The rapper routinely sold more records independently in the mid 90s.

Trick Trick's new album is tentatively set to hit stores in July.

Timbaland All Over The Map On Upcoming Album

After a banner 2006 which saw him nominated for multiple Grammys for his work with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, producer Timbaland is now turning his attentions to his own album. The as-yet-untitled set is expected in March; the first single will likely be "Give It To Me," which features Timberlake and Furtado...

"He ventures into the alternative world and the real pop world," Timbaland right-hand-man Nate "Danja" Hills tells Billboard.com. "He has so many different sounds from hip-hop, to pop, to rock on this album. And he pulls every single one of them off perfectly.

Timbaland has not released an album under his own name since 2003's "Under Construction II," a collaboration with longtime partner Magoo. Hills declined to reveal the guest artist lineup for the upcoming set, which is rumored to include Bjork, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott and 50 Cent, among many others.

For Timbaland, the coming year will provide the challenge trying to handle a heavy production load while simultaneously on tour with Timberlake, where "he will have his own spot in the show," according to Hills.

"There won't be a break [from producing] as long as I'm around," he says. "I'm not going to be on the road. I'll be in the studio and he'll be working from the bus doing projects that way. He'll still be active making records."

Asked why the Timbaland sound is suddenly back atop the charts after a hiatus in recent years, Hills observes, "His ear is more attuned to an international sound. Any type of music with a crazy melody, he is automatically attracted to. He knows how to transform those melodies to something urban. He knows how to put the oomph behind something pretty, or melodic and big. When you get the right vocals on it, it turns into something crazy international."
