Zitat:
WOS: How you doing man?

C-Murder: Man I'm coolin' right now ya heard me. Everything done turn around 100% as far as my case so everything good.

WOS: How did it turn around?

C-Murder: Well you know the judge granted me a new trial, so what I'm doing is waiting on a trial date so they can just drop the charge and let me out of here.

WOS: You have any idea when they will set a date?

C-Murder: Well hopefully it supposed to be any day now right now I tell ya it could be this month or next month so I know for a fact that at latest next month I'll know something.

WOS: So they haven't tried delaying things to slow the whole process down?

C-Murder: Nah, not that I know of. I been checkin' all that trying to prevent all that. So, I doubt it's that. It's taking that amount of time to just figure out if they gon' set a trial date or just ya know dismiss this charge.

WOS: If you to get out tomorrow, after spending time with your kids, what would be the first thing you do?

C-Murder: Man, I don't know, I'm a have to get my grub on ya heard me, all that bullshit they been feeding me in here I have to get my grub on. Shit, take my girl out and go chill for a while.

WOS: Sixth solo album "The Truest Shit Ever Said", is it similar to past C-Murder albums or is this something different that will surprise fans?

C-Murder: Well, ya know it's straight gritty. The old C-Murder is straight gutter ruff rugged ya heard me. Spittin' how it spose to be spitted, ain't trippin' on what's happening out there with the radio, mainstream, and video. It just me spittin' how I'm feeling right now. The trials and tribulations and stuff that I'm going through, what I feel like doing. Not tainted by the system and worrying about being put on BET and all that stuff, it's me 100%. At the same time I upgraded my game too and everybody that heard it so far saying it's the best thing I been put out yet, so that giving me a good feeling.

WOS: Tell me about some of the artists that you reached out to for guest spots?

C-Murder: Fiend from the old tank, I got Soulja Slim, went and got MAC on there, B.G., did a song with Akon, Capone out of New York. So you know it good right now brah, I only dealing with people that been there for me.

WOS: I heard you were trying to do a track with T.I…did that ever go down?

C-Murder: Nah, it ain't happen, I hollered at him ya know and it ain't go through, so I'm like to hell wit it. The timing wasn't right so that ain't shake, but I wasn't trippin'. I had to move on and handle my business.

WOS: Who you got handling production this time around?

C-Murder: Ya know I went back to the ole school. I messed with my boy KLC from Beats by the Pound, I got the dude that did Slow Motion beat. I'm messing with XL and Bass Heavy, some local dudes from Baton Rouge, Howard (Chaotik). So we doing our thing production wise.

WOS: All new recorded verses?

C-Murder: It all new music, all new recorded verses, new tracks, new everything, ain't nothin' old.

WOS: Your first single "Heard of Me" featuring B.G….why did you decide to reach out to him for the track?

C-Murder: Ya know I just heard the beat and me and him were dealing with each other. I was talking to him and he was messing with Slim at the same time ya know. It was bound to happen because every time we see each other in the street he'd come and just chill. I'd throw a party and he'd just come. I just heard that beat and felt he needed to be on there. So I called him up, sent it to him, he laced it up.

WOS: Why did you decide to choose this as the first single?

C-Murder: I got the response from everybody, they was feeling that, so they were like yeah let's do this one first, let's do the video, let's handle that. I could see it was gone be nice. It was my decision and everybody around me that deal with me decision.

WOS: How was the video shoot?

C-Murder: Oh yeah it was crucial, everything went smooth, wasn't no altercation, no problem, everything was smooth, it was lovely. The final edit crucial I done seen it. They put it together and showed me. I think when they see it come on TV they gon' be trippin'. It definitely gonna be history because it's from the blocks ya heard me and it from the Calliope, so that's the two sets in there.

WOS: You did the Southern Smoke 16 with DJ Smallz….you got any other mix tapes you trying to do before the album drops?

C-Murder: I did like two or three more. I ain't really got the hang of them. I did two on the west coast and did one wit DJ Smallz down south. Supposed to be doing one in New York.

WOS: You know when they gonna drop?

C-Murder: We rushing with them so I am pretty sure they dropping soon. I ain't really got the street dates yet.

WOS: I hear you still talk to folk from Cut Throat Committee and heard you may be hosting the 12 A Klok mix tape, any truth to that?

C-Murder: Yeah, that's another one I'm supposed to be getting down with soon. I'm just waiting for them to get back at me with it.

WOS: You've mentioned a "Cutt Boyz" project, is that something that is still going to happen?

C-Murder: All the homies from the hood and some of the cats that I deal with in the industry too, so we gon' collaborate on that. That's real soon too I'm putting it together right now.

WOS: So whose going to be on that one?

C-Murder: Ya know all my homies from the underground, straight gutter from the Calliope to some of my partners in New Orleans. I got Currency, Slim, I'm hollering at Twista, 3-6, ya know some people that you never thought would get together on one cd wit a nigga. I got Magic, Fiend, Mia X, and all them right now ya heard me. We just day by day, everybody sending me they songs. I'm reaching out to more people trying to put it together and get a final cut on it.

WOS: What you got in store for TRU Records?

C-Murder: Well, ya know for me I'm working on a documentary called "TRU Story" and I'm writing a couple of books right now. Midway finished on them so I'm a start promoting them and putting them out.

WOS: That's tight man

C-Murder: Do some talent shows and get some more new talent basically like a clean slate right now.

WOS: How is the transition from writing songs to writing books?

C-Murder: Well, ya know it kind of the same thing you just gotta get more in depth with the book. You can describe more and you can get people more details with the book. The main part is plotting it up and having ideas ya know, sitting here writing about all I been through already.

WOS: The new TRU album dropped this week…you're only on one track. Why is that?

C-Murder: Well, ya know the TRU album was basically done, I ain't know nothing about it till the last minute, then they hollered at me and said what's happening so I sent them this song.

WOS: Fans know that it isn't a real TRU album with you being on one song, Silkk on 3 songs, and a new guy…it isn't T R U ya know?

C-Murder: Yeah, well ya know they should of waited till I touched down ya feel me?

WOS: Right

C-Murder: But it didn't go down like that so ya know you just gotta do ya thing ya feel me?

WOS: If you've been able to keep up with them, what newcomers have you been feeling since you been locked up?

C-Murder: Man no man! this place crazy they aint got no BET, no MTV, no local channels, now the radio cut off no radio. That's probably all because of me, once I came in and got the local station Phat Phat we used to cut the music on for days and now we got nothing. It's crazy I really aint got nothin' to listen to, vibe on or nothing. With this album I'm putting out the TRUest shit I ever said. It ain't tainted bout nothing ya heard me, it's street. I ain't been able to hear no music in a couple of years, it just be coming how I'm coming.

WOS: "Life or Death" is widely regarded as one of the greatest No Limit releases ever, what do you think makes it stand out as a classic?

C-Murder: Man I think it because ya know a lot of people could relate to it and what I give to em. It's going to be real, it ain't being tainted by nobody, telling me I can't do this, can't do that. When I get in the studio I feel like I'm free to do what I want man I ain't trying to hear nothing. I was straight off the block too so you know they getting that straight ruggedness ya feel me?

WOS: Yeah man

C-Murder: Plus it was a quality album ya know lyrics and everything was there 100%.

WOS: What were the recording sessions like?

C-Murder: Recording sessions was crucial man, you know everybody in there, everybody waiting to see what's happening with what I got to say. Once I get the lyrics down everybody in there was loving it, the whole clique, and the whole tank ya know. It was family, the whole No Limit family was real. Turn the lights down, light a candle get in there and lay that thing.

WOS: On the song "Betya" from your "TRU Dawgs" album you had numerous disses towards Mystikal, Cash Money, and Juvenile. What caused you to diss them on wax?

C-Murder: There was a lot going on wit that. These rumors going along around town. There was just a lot of shootin' they mouth talkin' bout fuck No Limit and all that shit and it was just getting' out of hand, I had to settle that shit straight. You know I ain't wit all that bickering and fightin' and shit, but at the same time man just slow that down before it get real ya feel me. So I had to stop a lot of that bullshit from happening before it escalated into something serious ya dig. Your mouth can only hold so much before you throw up. After that I hollered at them personally and handled that like a man suppose to.

WOS: A lot of cats been screaming free C-Murder. Has anyone outside your family reached out to you for real support?

C-Murder: Fans been writing me ya know and let me know what's happenin', that been keeping me going. It had put me in that frame of mind to put this album out because they wanna hear me, they down for me, they gon' handle that, they got my back. They been doing that for me brah and I gotta have much respect and love for that. There been a few cats that reached out like Capone and some of the cats on my album. All that's on my album that's family. Niggaz that be calling me saying I got ya whodi whatever ya need. So everybody that on my album them the muthafuckaz that be holdin' it down.

WOS: Is there anything that you want to say before we end this here?

C-Murder: Yeah off top, I wanna let them know I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this album so ya know they gonna get it 100% C-Murder. Everything I'm releasing brand new, beats, tracks, everything, and I'm coming home soon no matter what the media say. Everything working out. You just gotta watch ya back out there with all that bullshit going on. Muthafuckaz trying to lock up everybody, I don't care what's gong on. You doing something right they gonna try to lock you up and use you as a trophy. So you gotta keep ya eyes 24-7 ya heard me!

WOS: Well, man I appreciate you taking time to do this and I wish you luck with your case and your album and I will be looking forward to hearing it and more music from you man.

C-Murder: Aright mane you be cool.

He's a convicted murderer serving a life sentence, but that's not keeping C-Murder from his day job.

The hip-hopster, whose real name is Corey Miller, has drawn the ire of authorities in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, after he somehow managed to make a music video while behind bars awaiting a second trial in the shooting death of a teenage boy.

And this came after the rapper recorded a 15-track album, The Truest S--t I Ever Said, while incarcerated at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. The CD is due out Mar. 22, along with the clandestinely-shot video for the lead single, "Y'all Heard of Me."

All of which comes as news to Sheriff Harry Lee.

"Nowhere was it ever mentioned that someone would be doing a commercial enterprise in the jail," Lee told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "I'm pissed off that that attorney would trick me."

"That attorney" being Ronald Rakosky, who is representing C-Murder in his murder case. Rakosky was allowed jailhouse visits with the rapper last fall, and the attorney brought along recording equipment to capture C-Murder's rhymes.

"I know of no law or regulation that prohibited anything that we were doing," Rakosky tells the Times-Picayune.

The music video, which was leaked online last week, cuts between Miller in orange prison garb rapping about how he and other young blacks are subjected to racial profiling and fellow rapper B.G. performing before a huge crowd at a New Orleans housing project.

Rakosky, who did not return calls seeking comment Friday, also appears in the video.

According to the rapper's label, Koch Records, the C-Murder footage was taken from two interviews that the sheriff had permitted, one with Court TV and a second with a local cable-access show called Phat Phat 'N All That.

The sheriff, however, says he never imagined the sit-downs would morph into impromptu musical performances that would allow C-Murder an opportunity to revive his once burgeoning career. And reps for both Court TV and Phat Phat said they did not give Koch or the rapper permission to use the segments.

Rakosky is quoted in the newspaper saying "I don't know how the footage was obtained. I wasn't invovled in the process.

Lee, meanwhile, says he will file a lawsuit to block C-Murder from profiting off his crime and to return any royalties to the county. "They used my jail. I think I'm entitled to some money," Lee told the newspaper.

In September 2003, a Louisiana jury convicted C-Murder of second-degree murder for the Jan. 12, 2002 slaying of a 16-year-old fan outside a nightclub. Last April, however, a judge granted the hip-hop star a new trial after determining prosecutors withheld pertinent information about witnesses called to implicate C-Murder. Prosecutors have appealed that ruling and are awaiting a new decision.

The rapper was also rung up by a grand jury on second-degree attempted murder charges related to a separate case in which he allegedly pulled a semi-automatic outside a Baton Rouge nightspot and tried to shoot the club's owner and bodyguard.

The Truest features such ditties as "I Know I Live in the Ghetto" and "Locked Up REMIX" and an array of guest artists, including Capone, Fat Joe and Soulja Slim.

"This record is real street; I'm kickin' it back to the streets," Miller says in a press release. "It's about the trials and tribulations of my life. People will be able to relate to it."

Corey Miller comes from a family of rap royalty. His older brother is Master P and his nephew is Lil' Romeo. A third brother is rapper Silkk the Shocker.

After recording with his brothers in a mid-'90s outfit called Tru, C-Murder went on to record four solo albums for Master P's No Limit Records, starting with 1998's Life or Death and ending with 2002's aptly titled Trapped in Crime.
