Hey People...
We're back, and under new management. Thank you for your support and for making the label what it has been for years as we've brought you The ReSERVED compilation with everyone from Wordz to Mars ILL, through the Stowaways and Blacksoil Project releases. It's been rough, but fun. From travelling all over the country and the world to creating quality music for your ears to consume, we have had the privelege of meeting you and/or sharing our vision with you. Your part in that is appreciated.
There's a lot of new things happening with the label. Our founder, Deftone, while still advising the trajectory of the ReSERVED vision, is no longer the owner. Our new owner/director will be revealed soon. As far as artists, along with Wordz and Gilead7, we have added producer Tall Black Guy to the roster. With a sound that reminds the listener of the late, great JDilla with traces of Roy Ayres and his own soul in the forefront, he's preparing to take over woofers and tweeters in the near future. TBG has slayed several producers in local and regional beat battles such as the annual Red Bull Big Tune, and has travelled to several corners of the country with his edgy, eleveated boom bap sound. He has produced for several underground heavyweights, such as Iomos Marad and Primemeridian, and has been covered by Remix Magazine and Centerstage Chicago. One half of the producer/MC outfut the Eighties Babies, TBG and rapper Dee Jackson have been making noise with their new album. Check it out. Visit myspace. com/tallblkguyproductions to hear the majic of our new superproducer.
Also, ReSERVED's own Gilead7 has finished a 7inch vinyl single in promotion of his upcoming instrumental project "Two-Track Wonders (out in spring/summer 09)." Stepping off of the mic (mostly) and on to the boards, he has crafted a 7' ep that reflects his eclectic, surrealistic, and progrssive background in music and life itself. The Aside of the record is a dancehall esque number featuring Thaione Davis (URB's top 100 of 2005), Nizm, and GQ Tha Teacha entitled "Movers and Shakas." Over a bass heavy, dirty track that will remind you of reggae nights with cool rude bwoys and thick gals in Belize, all of the MCs take care of business with GQ finishing the G7 soundscape with a classic reggae chant (It's funny how things pan out, Gilead's dad used to work with GQ's uncle when they were growing up in Belize). On the bside, Gilead shuts the heck up and just produces an electro Celtic lo-fi drummed, dark, synth filled atmosphere for Galapagos 4/Tomorrow Kings affiliate Skech 185 to tell his story of love gone in limbo then wrong. Entitled Love Song #137, Skech cloaks his battle-oriented flow into an offensive against the woman who he, in Lauryn Hill's words, "...loved real hard once, but the love wasn't returned." And, what better way to end the new beginning 7 inch of ReServed Records than with a Tall Black Guy instrumental. Called "Moonset," it's sure to set the mood for listeners to hear the upcoming full-length from Tall Black Guy on ReServed Records. The 7 inch comes out in the states on December 16, 2008. If you're overseas, and/or you really say to yourself, "Man, I gotta have that now," order it NOW at these fine overseas retailers (and select Chicago stores like Grammaphone and others who know a little secret):
