Take a little feuding’, fussing’ and a-fighting’ and what do you have? You have a hilarious new comedy now being filmed in the film capital of the South- Atlanta. The movie unfolds the shenanigans’ of two weed smoking brothers, Earl and Ray Ray, who hear about a highway in Kentucky that is a Marijuana nirvana. The two head South to get their share and find themselves smack dab in the middle of a long-running mountain feud between the GATFIELDS and the MCROYS. When the two defend Marie, Paw Gatsfield’s only daughter, from the unwanted attentions of some McRoy thugs, they are welcomed into the Gatsfield’s mountain stronghold. However, when Paw gets wind that Earl and Ray Ray are about to abscond with his crop and his daughter, our heroes must run for their lives from the hillbilly hordes that are after them and… sometimes it gets to be exciting.
The film is being written, directed and produced by Damon “Coke” Daniels whose credits include “Who Made The Potato Salad” and “My Baby’s Daddy”. The Executive Producer is HD whose production company is “Free The Peeps”. Casting Director Phaedra Harris states “all the actors morphed into character and kept her laughing all day long.” “Casting this film was a blast. “Coke” the director, who also wrote the film, played a major role in our talent selection process. His vision was so clear it made my job an enjoyable experience.” Eddie Griffin, who has dual acting roles in the film, has a long list of credits such as “Malcolm and Eddie”, “John Q”, “Undercover Brother” and “Armageddon”. Eddie and his company “Front of the Bus” are producing the film. He says “Hillbilly Highway is really going to take people by surprise.” “We have a fantastic team and working with Damon “Coke” Daniels has been a great experience. I can’t wait for the camera to stop rolling so I can see the finished product.”
Rounding out the cast are the two lead characters, Devon the Dude and Lil Duval (Earl & Ray Ray) surrounded by a bevy of fine actors such as Gary Owen, Kelly Coffield Park, Keith David, Tiny Lister, Jr., Erik Estrada, Elle Capone, Tyron Turner, nephew Tommy, Tommy Ford, James Hornsby, Jasmine Burke, Ron Rogge as well as a few local Atlanta rappers, celebs and producers.
During rehearsal, Tommy Ford who plays Detective Smith in the movie and has worked with “Coke” the last few years stated “What impresses me most is that “Coke” is not waiting for Hollywood to give their seal of approval on his work. He just goes out there and creates, writes, directs and produces his vision into fruition.”
Hillbilly Highway is scheduled to wrap up shooting next week and Damon “Coke” Daniels promises that this film will be funny and entertaining. “I’m building an urban comedy brand similar to what Tyler Perry did, but much more raw and edgy.”
So if you want a hilarious fun filled comedy film, look out for Hillbilly Highway created, written, directed and produced by Damon “Coke” Daniels.
