MC Intellekt - the ATF Records family’s lyrical boy wonder - and DJ Dirty Digits - Filthy McNasty on the turntables, a human search engine on the topic of True School Hip-hop - combine to form Intellekt & Dirty Digits, better known to some as “The I-D-Double.” Recently relocated to Atlanta from their native Florida, IDD has been paying dues in the ATL underground and playing high profile events such as the annual A3C Independent Hip-hop Festival. In the past year they have also performed with the likes of Guru (Gangstarr), KRS One, Prefuse 73, and Kid Koala.
Summer 2006: ATF proudly announces the release of “Intellektual Property, Revised,” (IPR) the IDD’s debut full length effort. A collection of re-worked tracks from Intellekt’s 2004 demo and new tracks composed after he and Dirty Digits joined forces. IPR gets some extra shine through guest production and engineering by Mudfish (ATF’s home-studio miracle worker) as well as cameos from IDD friends and mentors, including: Sol.illaquists of Sound (Epitaph), MC Proper, Speck and Enoch of CYNE, Capitul, and Tough Junkie of Simple Complexity.
Selected Cliff’s Notes: “Page One,” a conversation between Intellekt and Digits about who they are and what the record is about (a sick intro in which Digits, turntablist to the core, lays digital cuts over his half of the dialogue) sets “Intellektual Property, Revised” into motion. “Mario Kart,” driven by a Tough Junkie jazz guitar sample turns a pre-work game of Nintendo’s Mario Kart into a chance to flaunt the shiny new hook that Intellekt just wrote. “Sidetracks” is a frenetic run through Intellekt’s ADD-induced panic attack. Digits’ cuts and support vocals, built over Enoch’s creeping upright bass notes, provide a musical Methylphenidate superior to, yet oddly more addictive than, Adderall or Ritalin. “Phenom Mental,” made brazen by an instrumental track from DiViNCi (Sol.illaquists of Sound) and a cameo by Intellekt’s Mom-dukes (no kidding), is the MC’s proof that he deserves his name – the kid’s mentals are indeed phenomenal. Digits cuts the bejeezus out of DiViNCi’s snares, kicks, sonic glitches, samples and bouncing piano keys. “On My Day Off” takes the fan through Intellekt’s mental struggle on his one free day of the week. DiViNCi comes through once again with rising horns and strings, bound by synth drum beats and more samples/sound glitches. “Freebird,” paying homage to a grammar school friend of Intellekt’s who was killed in a car wreck, ends as a celebration of life as opposed to a lament. Bonus cut “Living The Life” is a piece of the MCs daily reality, working a day job and striving to be a Rap artist.
