Rapper on Trial for 2 Counts of Murder Readies Solo Album for Early Fall 2006 Re

Mac Minister, who made headlines when he was featured on “America’s Most Wanted” following a homicide, is poised to release his new album The Minister of Defense while still behind bars. The project will be released on SMC Recordings/Fontana and features Snoop Dogg, Mac Dre, Bad Azz, Too $hort & B-Legit, as well as production by LT Hutton & Mannie Fresh.


Mac Minister, whose real name is Andre Dow, originally hails from the Bay Area and made a name for himself by giving "game sermon's" on albums by E-40, Snoop Dogg, Yukmouth and the Cash Money Millionaires. He also appears on Snoop Dogg's upcoming album, Blue Carpet Treatment, alongside Young Jeezy & Nate Dogg.

Mac Minister is currently being held in Las Vegas and is getting ready to be tried for the 2005 murders of rapper Anthony "Fat Tone" Watkins, 24, and his friend Jermaine "Cowboy" Akins. According to police speculation, a long standing rivalry had been brewing between Mac Minister and Fat Tone after the death of Bay Area rapper, Andre "Mac Dre" Hicks, who was gunned down in Kansas City in 2004 after a dispute over a payment for a concert. While maintaining his innocence, this album, The Minister of Defense marks an opportunity for Mac Minister to tell his side of the story and detail what led up to the incidents in question.

The Minister of Defense is an opportunity for listeners to hear about experiences that other rappers boast of, while not having lived. Without glorifying violence, The Minister of Defense is a way for people to understand what a life on the street entails, as well as the consequences that come with the lifestyle.

The album starts off with the Mac performing his trademark sermon, announcing his dream of Crips, Bloods, gangstas and thugs coming together.

On "Trill Man", the late Mac Dre joins the Minister on a smooth, guitar-riff driven track. "The rap game without Mac Minister is like the bay area without water," Minister says, jumping off the Mac 2 Mac collab.

"Cadillacs, Skirts, & Vogues" is a funked out banger we come to expect from some crestside players such as Little Bruce and B-Legit, who feature on the song. Bela's unmistakable voice carries the song on the chorus and Bruce hits us off with 2 verses.

The controversy stirring "Bitchatition" is a surprise not expected as it's been over 6 years since the infamous scuffle at The Source Awards in Pasadena, which involved Mac Mister and E-40. With the clear title, it's obvious what the track is about right off the bat. To quote a part of the angry anti-40 sermon, which samples "Bring The Yellow Tape":

"E-40 water used to be my homie, used to be my ace. Now I wanna spit in his face and slap the protein and gingivitis from ya gums...The Ballatician is the Bitchatition. You fake fictitious fraud, part time broad. You the Bitchatition talkin' bout you a hog. Nigga you'se a fat ass pig and I'll split your wig. Your bloodline is tainted. You're B.I.T.C.H. positive. You not the ambassador of the bay, bitch you'se an embarrassment of the bay. Trying to spongebob me from my game."

There's many more notable tracks on the album which features Mac Dre, San Quinn, Rappin 4-Tay, Snoop Dogg, Too Short and many others.

A pretty solid debut for a first time rapper but longtime game-involved mouthpiece. The album, "Minister of Defense" drops on September 26th on SMC Recordings.

Mac Minister Found Guilty in Fat Tone Case


According to the Associated Press, A jury in Las Vegas on Monday found Andre “Mac Minister” Dow guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder for killing KC rapper Anthony “Fat Tone” Watkins and his friend Jermaine “Cowboy” Akins in 2005. Dow shot Watkins and Akins after luring them to a supposed meeting with Snoop Dogg. The jury gave him two life sentences.


Next week, Dow's friend Jason Mathis goes on trial for the same charges. Prosecutors say Dow and Mathis killed Akins and Watkins out of revenge for the 2004 Kansas City shooting of Andre “Mac Dre” Hicks of Vallejo, California.

Rumors flew around in the rap community that Watkins was linked to the shooting of Hicks, despite the fact that he had an alibi and was cleared as a suspect. Unfortunately, the rap war between the West Coast and the Midwest was stronger than his alibi, and he and Akins were shot and killed in Las Vegas.
