Zitat:
Now on that same note, how do you think someone like a Ja Rule or a Juvenile would be 30 years from now?
Khalil & Chace: Rich. <laugh> Taking care of their families. But you know I don’t really get into that shit. When we first did some articles and I used an artist as a reference… a lot of it got misconstrued in print. A lot of these artists… I mean I know a lot of them cats, we’ve been working in this industry for a long time. And I cant speak about Ja Rule or Juvenille, but I’m almost sure that the persona that you see or that he reflects… that’s not that brutha man. The gods name is “Ja Rule”, he’s got some knowledge of self and some foundation and consciousness. He’s just made the decision with his art to go a different way to garner success and I really cant be mad at that. Cuz I’ve been doing this for a long time and I work a 9-5 as the Director of Urban Marketing at ArtistDirect.com to maintain my living and take care of my family. I wish I could afford myself the opportunity of a Ja Rule or a Juvenille. I see them collecting royalties from the publishing they own. Comfortable. Whether they’d be contributing something like a Minister Farrakahn, I don’t know, but u never know… they didn’t come in as extremely conscious.
Khalil: I can’t say that I’m a big fan of their music or I listen to them like “that”, but (they’re doing their thing).
But how do you think their music is affecting the youth today? I mean yeah you know they might be rich and they’re taking care of their family. But as far as the people who actually listen to Ja Rule and Juvenile, how do you think THEY will mature 30 years from now?
Chace: This is my theory and you can disagree… but 30 years from now I don’t think that the music their trying to create will be relevant enough to matter. Theres only a handful of artists that are important 30 years later in any genre of music. The music is a reflection of socioeconomic times at the moment. Regardless of what we say as the status quo and conscious people, that Ja Rule and Juvenille are perpetuating a lot of these images.. but it goes hand and hand. This stuff already exists. Its not only them, its part of society and the culture. Juvenille and Ja Rule DON’T HAVE ENOUGH money to make the situation fucked up for all of us, brah. They just started poppin’ off 2 years ago. We’ve had problems of they way we as black people and the images that have been portrayed in the media way before these niggahzz. <smirk> In 30 years from now when Back the Ass Up comes on, youre gonna LOVE IT. Youre gonna think to yourself “Man this is some of the most ignorant shit” but youre gonna love it. This is great. <laugh> so peace to Ja Rule. Holla atchya boy. <singing: Change, Whooaaaaa, Selfff Sciientificcccc> Hahahah. Im just playing.
Four letter question. Is Hip Hop Dead?
Chace: Nah man. Hip-hoppers are scared man. Conscious people. From the golden era. Us. It gets scary dude., nah what im sayin?
You get scared?
Yeah.
Of what?
The Ja Rules and the Juveniles, the people who are corrupting the moral fibers of hip-hop.
I know you brothers are busy… but what can we expect from Self-Scientific in the upcoming future and when will the next album drop?
Chace & Khalil: Aww man we got the album called Change featuring Juvenile, Ja Rule, J. Lo, Diddy <laugh outloud> Hahahah! We just doin it big man, shiny suits and all. We got this new TV Show called Conscious Thugs. Hahaha. <laugh> Nahh, Im just playing. We got the new album called Change coming soon.
