Edo G & Da Bulldogs: Acting!
Dass die Bostoner Rap-Szene der in der gemeinhin als Hauptstadt des Ostküsten-Raps geltenden Metropole New York kaum nachsteht, dürfte nicht zuletzt dank einiger Alben von Bostons Veteran Ed O.G (oder auch Edo G.) kaum abzustreiten sein. Gleichwohl überraschend ist die Ankündigung, dass Ed O.G. nach Jahren als Solo-Künstler wieder ein Album mit seiner früheren Truppe Da Bulldogs unter die Leute bringen will. Die Erklärung ist allerdings weniger aufregend: Die bereits 1996 veröffentlichte EP "Acting" wurde um ein paar Tracks aufgehübscht und wird unter Fortführung des aktuellen Trends, verloren geglaubte vermeintliche Klassiker neu aufzulegen, nunmehr unter gleichem Titel ab dem 15.01.2008 über Solid Recordings als vollwertiges Album vertrieben. Mit insgesamt 18 Songs kann sich das durch Produktionen von u.a. den Vinyl Reanimators und Gastauftritten von Big Shug und dem mittlerweile verstorbenen Scientifik verfeinerte Ergebnis gleichwohl ohne weiteres sehen lassen. Nur das Cover-Artwork hätte vielleicht einer kleinen Überarbeitung bedurft...

Roxbury native EDO.G (Edward Anderson) and Da Bulldogs broke into the international Hip Hop arena in 1991 with the release of their debut album “Life Of A Kid In The Ghetto.” Several successful singles were released from this first album including the party anthem “I Got To Have It,” which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles Chart and on the Yo! MTV Raps countdown. Sales were estimated at over 470,000 units for this first album and during a two year time span between 1991-1992, EDO.G received 3 awards at the annual Boston Music Awards. By 1999 EDO.G earned 2 of the Boston Music Award’s most prestigious titles four times over: “Best Rap Album” and “Best Outstanding Act.”Now for the first time ever Edo, producer Joe Manfield (Vinyl Reanimators) and Direct Records present the ultimate companion set to this classic rap album. This double disc boasts 28 never before heard tracks, all lifted from the original demo recording sessions. Included are alternative versions of the HUGE singles “I Got To Have It” and “Be A Father To Your Child” as well as the demo “Feel Like A Nut”, the song that Mansfield says got them their deal. Ein bißchen spät, aber besser als nie...

Überall. Hab meine für 3€ im Müller gekauft, damals.

Ich weiß nicht so recht - liegengebliebe Songs mit namhaften Features hört man sich ja immer gerne an, aber Demo- und Alternativversionen irgendwelcher Tracks die man schon jahrelang fest im Ohr hat. Hätten lieber noch ein paar neue Sachen draufhauen sollen...
