The big "internet rumor" this week is that Mobb Deep has broken up. As the story goes, apparently there was some kind of disagreement over a "beat tape" between rapper/Mobb Deep's manager Littles, and Mobb Deep producer Alchemist, which resulted in a fight, with Havoc taking Al's side, and Prodigy taking Littles side, resulting in Mobb Deep breaking up. Of course, virtually all of this is hearsay, coming from people outside the camp, but no official statements have been made by Alchemist, Littles, Prodigy, or Havoc, so at this point, consider it untrue.
I spoke to Alchemist's brother and partner in ALC Records, Neil Maman, and he had the following to say. "(What you are referring to) happened like three weeks ago. Al did not have a fight with Littles, it was with other people outside of the industry. But as far as Hav and P breaking up, I doubt it was at that level. They have always had their internal problems, but it's definitely not at that level. Hav taking Al's side and P taking Littles side, that's just ridiculous."
Again, this is coming from someone very close to all of the parties involved, who admitted something did go down, but apparently it sounds like it was not that big of a deal. The part that clues me into that the group may be on shakey ground, but not broken up, is the fact that they are trying to keep this little non-event under wraps. Why would a group that is broken up want people to think they were still together, unless they were.... still together. I could be wrong on this one, but until an official statement is made, don't believe the hype. More news to follow, if any.
