Nas' First Def Jam Album Will Be on Own Imprint

Nas is getting ready to introduce Def Jam to the Jones Experience...

The rapper had everyone talking last week when he signed with Def Jam and now the streets are buzzing again with the news that Nas will release his first album under his Def Jam contract, on his own imprint called the Jones Experience.

"I've been in this business a long time and know what a great deal is," the rapper told Billboard. "I signed a significant and excellent situation."

The imprint will focus "first and foremost on hip hop," Nas continued, adding that he will consider releasing albums in other genres of music. "This is so much bigger than me and Jay-Z. We're both excited by what this could potentially mean for hip hop as a whole."

Under Nas' new deal, that has him switching from Columbia to Def Jam, Island Def Jam and Sony Music will work as financial partners in the rappers' first two albums of the four-album deal. Each album has a budget of $3 million. Sony will get ownership of the masters from Nas' 11 years of work with Columbia, and will retain the right to release a greatest-hits collection on its own. Nas has also agreed to deliver two new tracks for a Sony hits set.

"Hip-hop needed this," Mark Pitts, who helped negotiate the truce between Nas and Jay-Z last fall told the magazine. Pitts' management partner, Wayne Barrow, added that he would like to see the truce bring a "different sensibility to hip-hop and take it back to the origin of what a beef is. Battling over lyrical prowess is one thing, but to turn it into a violent scenario is another. Kids are mimicking these situations as if they're real."

Nas and Jay Z Speak

Simply put, Nas and Jay-Z together are a "threat."

That's how the Queensbridge rhyme savant explains some of his peers' criticism of his signing to the Jay-Z-led Def Jam label. Since the deal was announced, MCs such as Fat Joe, Cam'ron and 50 Cent have publicly questioned how Nas could sign with a onetime foe who had an affair with the mother of his daughter and talked about it on wax.

As Nas' new partner, Jay definitely wants to give his input on God's Son's Def Jam debut, a project both MCs feel could be Nas' best album ever.

"That would be small-minded," Nas said recently while sitting next to Jay. "That's what I want people to understand. Me coming over to Def Jam, I'm bringing something to the table. I'm equivalent to any of the artists that are there. I'm ready to go — I'm ready to kick ass.

"The movement is bigger than what someone says about Nas for the moment," he added. "I've always had someone say something about me. I'm one of the most crucified artists in the game, thank you! This is what challenges me, what makes me go on. When people have negative things to say, it's all good."

"We're thinking bigger than what was said on the record," Jay added. "We're thinking bigger than what people perceive this as. We're thinking as responsible, grown men. I know that's not popular, especially in the state of hip-hop right now, but that's what it is. We've been chosen as leaders. We have to lead. We can't follow people's perception of what this union is. I didn't sign Nas, I partnered with Nas. You can't sign an artist of Nas' stature, you can only partner with him."

Hov wants to surround Nas with a circle of top-ranking talent; he'd also like to see the usually reclusive Nas out at the clubs a lot more than he has been in years, just to hear what's going on and vibe.

"A lot of folks don't really know what it takes to put your heart and soul into this thing and work it out there," Nas said. "To go out there and put your face in the public eye. I personally don't like a lot of limelight. It comes with the territory."

Nas said that production on his album has already begun.

"It's starting now," he said. "I'm really excited about it. I'm listening to Hot 97, [Power] 105. I'm listening to stations in Atlanta, I'm listening to XM Radio. I'm doing the research on the whole thing, and I'm real excited about this move. Coming from my last record with 'Bridging the Gap,' the joint with my dad, I knew I went left, so I couldn't wait to come back"

"I knew whatever I did next would be a colossal movement," he added. "Now I have everything I need to push me to make the best album I ever made."

Will the new music being generated by Nas inspire Jay-Z to put out his own LP this year? Although he hasn't totally ruled it out, Jigga is still saying no — as of now. For his part, Nas says Hov should definitely put out at least one more record.

"Personally, Jay, I feel like you gotta come back out," Nas said, turning toward Jay and addressing him. "That's just me. Because if me and him don't [keep putting out music], you leave a lot of people out there that's like, 'What's going on?' "

There is no release date on the new Nas album, but he and Hov say to expect it sometime this fall.

Jay-Z To Give Nas More Help With New Album

After seeing how Columbia Records dealt with Nas' career, Jay-Z wants to provide the Illmatic one with his blueprint for success.

“I don’t want to sound disrespectful to Columbia, but I don’t think there was no one in there who had true respect to work with him on his albums,” Jay-Z, the President of Def Jam, told the Associated Press. “I think he was just doing everything on his own, and it’s hard to hear everything on your own.”

Just as he did on Ne-Yo's No.1 album, In My Own Words, Jay will be assuming the role of editor on Nas' Def Jam debut project.

Jay helped secure a deal with Columbia to have Def Jam release Nas' next two records. Nas' album is scheduled to be released in the late fall.

Zitat:
Nas recently dished out 2 MILLION DOLLARS (U.S.) for a beat from the Neptunes.

The beat is so great, that it had interest from Puff Daddy as well, in turn causing an all out bidding war for rights to the drums between Nas and Puffy.

Think two million for a beat is a bit pricey? Busta Rhymes, who has already heard the drums, thinks Nas payed what the Neptunes deserved for this one.

"Nas can have it" says P. Diddy after Nas bidded 2 million for a new neptunes beat, which Diddy wanted to have.

"Im busy with recording my best album so far and money doesnt play a part", Nas explains.

The big audience will have to wait 2 month before they will be able to hear this pricy beat, but Busta Rhymes already said. "Ah shit, thats the craziest beat, I ever heard! Those drums man, Those drums are fire! If Nas is gonna rap to this beat, its going to be over. This will be the biggest hit in the history of hiphop!"

für n neptunes beat würde ich an nas stelle nicht mal 1000 dollar ausgeben
