Cool and Dre Ink Deal To Release Miami Rapper Joe Hound

After producing a string of hits for a bevy of artists including Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Rick Ross and others, production duo Cool & Dre announced a deal with Skeleton Key Entertainment to release music from their label imprint Epidemic Music.

Through the new arrangement, the Miami based producers will release their latest discovery, Joe Hound.

"He [Joe Hound] has the potential to be at the forefront of a musical movement for Miami," said Andre "Dre" Lyon. "We believe that the industry is changing and that the best way to introduce Joe to the masses is through an independent company like Skeleton Key that understands our vision and supports what we are trying to achieve."

While independent, Skeleton Key Entertainment is the mainstream entertainment division of the multi-media holding company, Mega Media Group, Inc.

The new partnership will give Cool & Dre's imprint instant access to the media company's range of services, which include talent management, music publishing, recording, music production and distribution, video production/distribution and radio broadcasting.

The production team will also work with a variety artist's in the upcoming months.

As previously reported, Cool and Dre are currently working with UGK as the group prepares their seventh album, U.G.K. Underground Kingz.

In addition to UGK, Cool and Dre have penned in studio time to produce new music by Young Jeezy, R&B recording artist Joe and rapper Eve.

In related news, Cool and Dre now restaurateurs as co-owners of the trendy eatery 510 Ocean.

"It's the only black-owned restaurant on the beach," Dre told AllHipHop.com. "It's sitting right there on Ocean Drive. It's cool. Myself, Big Boi from Outkast, Lil' Jon and T.J. Duckett from the Atlanta Falcons [are co-owners] too. We've got a really nice, sexy spot right there on the beach."

R&B Star Gerald Levert Dies Of Heart Attack

Popular R&B singer Gerald Levert died today (Nov. 10) of a heart attack in his hometown of Cleveland. The artist turned 40 years old in July. The son of O'Jays lead singer Eddie Levert, Levert emerged from his father's shadow to become a well-regarded singer/songwriter and producer in his own right.

Some 20 years after notching his first R&B hit with "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind," Levert's warm, sensual voice remained a concert draw, especially among female fans who rushed the stage to grab -- and sometimes wrestle over -- the teddy bears he would toss into the audience...

The artist came to national attention as a member of Atlantic Records' Levert, comprised of his brother Sean and friend Marc Gordon. The trio scored with the aforementioned "Pop" in 1986. Next came the No. 1 R&B/No. 5 pop hit "Casanova" in 1987, followed by three more R&B chart-toppers, "Addicted to You," "Just Coolin'" featuring Heavy D and "Baby I'm Ready" in 1991.

Also in 1991, Levert launched his solo career with the EastWest album "Private Line," whose title track notched No. 1 on the R&B charts. A second No. 1 R&B single, "Baby Hold on to Me," arrived the following year.

Levert went on to record eight solo albums, the most recent being 2004's "Do I Speak for the World?" "Voices," a compilation of Levert duets with his dad and other artists, was released last year. Levert was also a member of the group LSG, which included Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill.

Beyond singing, Levert's talents included songwriting and producing. His collaborations included projects with Barry White, Stephanie Mills, Teddy Pendergrass and the Winans. He also co-wrote and co-produced Barry White's last No. 1 R&B hit, 1994's "Practice What You Preach."

"He was one of the greatest voices of our time, who sang with unmatched soulfulness and power, as well as a tremendously gifted composer and an accomplished producer," reads a statement from Atlantic. "Above all, he was an exceptional human being whose warmth and grace inspired us all."

Crime Mob Returns With New Album

After their hard-hitting club hit “Knuck If You Buck” became a huge street anthem in 2004, Georgia-based rap group Crime Mob is returning to claim their title as Crunk music’s most prolific act.

Preparing for their upcoming album Hated on Mostly (BME/Warner Bros.), the six rowdy rappers from Ellenwood, Ga. sold more than 200,000 copies of their self-titled debut release, despite negligible airplay...

Comprised of Jock aka M.I.G., Cyco Black, Diamond, Lil Jay, Princess and Killa C (who is currently incarcerated), Crime Mob formed in 2001 after the members pulled their allowances together to produce a demo. They quickly created a buzz in local high schools, and Atlanta’s crowned prince of crunk, Lil’ Scrappy, took notice, inviting them to perform as his opening act at shows around the area. Scrappy later signed the group to his production company, Crunk Incorporated.

"Once things started taking off, we got management and all that kind of stuff,” says Princess, one of two female MCs in the group. “We couldn't be in school, missing all those days, so we had to be home-schooled,” she says of receiving her 11th and 12th grade education at home.

Now ranging in ages from 18 to 21, the group looks back on their days as burgeoning rap stars, and many have a new outlook on the industry and their instant success.

"Basically, we were coming right out of the streets. That was the life we were living," Cyco Black says of the group's early numbers. "We were young, being hardheaded, and living off thrills. In reality, that don't get you nowhere. Instead of getting into trouble, we feel like we can make music and turn everything bad around to good."

The group’s second club banger, “Stilettos (pumps)”, allowed the female group members Diamond and Princess to take the lead as they represented for female hip hop lovers in an unconventional fashion while staying true to their southern crunk roots.

"I was taught by the boys, and they had this high expectation. You had to come just as hard as a male. If you're going to be part of Crime Mob, you have to come with it." Princess chimed in by saying, "A lot of other females think that sex sells. If you're real creative -- and I'm not saying that other females aren't -- then there's a lot more to talk about than what you can do to a male, and what a male can do to you."

Despite mediocre marketing and radio play, Crime Mob inked a deal with famed Crunk King, Lil’ Jon, on his BME Records label, and are now preparing for their upcoming 2007 release.

With a large portion of the production contributed by their own Lil Jay, the group says they’ve grown lyrically, and the outcome will be one of the most refreshing albums on the upcoming year.

"We turned heads on the first one because we were young and competing with a lot of other mainstream artists," Diamond says. "The first time it was like, 'Oh, they're just kids.' But now, [we're] not just crunk. We actually have lyrics and stuff that [people] can actually listen to and say, 'Oh, they're really talking about something.'"

“Hated on Mostly” is slated to appear in stores January 9, 2007, and will feature the album’s lead single “Rock Yo Hips” with Lil’ Scrappy. The album will also feature songs like “Don’t Need Ya”, “Circles”, “2nd Look” and the rowdy club anthem “Who You Be.”

Parkplatz im Quadrat I 4.
