'5 Thousand Dollar' Hit On Dre

The man who touched off a wild brawl at the Vibe Music Awards last year told cops that rap icon Marion "Suge" Knight paid him to sucker-punch Dr. Dre in a bid to embarrass the famous producer, sources told The Post yesterday.

Jimmy James Johnson, a 26-year-old parolee who is facing a life sentence because he's a possible three-strike offender, has told Santa Monica, Calif., police that Knight gave him $5,000 and agreed to forgive a brother's financial debt in exchange for the punch.

Check inside for more...

Shortly after hitting Dr. Dre, Johnson himself was stabbed — allegedly by David Darnell Brown, an up-and-coming rap artist known as Young Buck. Brown, 23, pleaded not guilty yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court to assault with a deadly weapon.

Johnson's defense lawyer Milton Grimes and Deputy DA Hamid Towfigh both declined comment — although Grimes suggested his client has a reasonable excuse for his role in the Nov. 15 melee.

"We will have that explanation [for the punch] in court," Grimes said. Johnson is still recovering from a collapsed lung, Grimes added.

Johnson's potential motive for punching Dr. Dre will probably be of no help to his accused stabber Brown, who Santa Monica cops claim was videotaped in the act. Brown's New York-based defense lawyer Scott Leemon declined to discuss the case yesterday outside court, but has previously said "pictures may be deceiving."

Young Buck, a rapper affiliated with 50 Cent's G-Unit and a Dre protégé, remains free on $500,000 bail, while Johnson is behind bars in lieu of a $1.4 million bond.

Knight, a ruthless businessman who has been in and out of prison, and Dr. Dre co-founded Death Row Records in 1992. But they've been bitter rivals ever since Dr. Dre left Death Row and became a producing legend on his own.

Johnson has told cops he attended the Vibe Awards with Knight's entourage, and that Knight was set on embarrassing Dr. Dre on his big night, sources said. The sucker punch came moments before Dr. Dre was set to be honored with a Vibe lifetime-achievement award.

Knight's lawyer David Chesnoff flatly rejected any suggestions that his client wanted Dr. Dre punched out.

"There is absolutely no truth to it. I am so confident that there is no issue," said Chesnoff, adding that investigators have not even asked to interview his paroled client Knight.

After fallen seriously ill in the past year, former Slum Village and A Tribe Called Quest producer Jay Dee aka J Dilla has reportedly been hospitalized and remains in critical condition.

The Roots drummer ?uestlove posted the news on the Okayplayer website -- asking the users to pray for the producer who is presently in and out of a coma. According to ?uest, Dilla was found in a near coma and rushed to the hospital. Though he was put on a respirator and came through several hours ago, Dilla's life is still believed to be in jeopardy.
While details on his condition are still sketchy, ?uestlove alluded to the beat maker needing a new liver. The Detroit musician has had health problems in the past year. The usually slim Jay Dee appeared to have gained massive weight when posing alongside partner Mad Lib on the cover of URB magazine's March 2004 issue.

In recent months, the producer has been working on several projects including Common's upcoming Be alongside Kanye West.

Habe es heute auch gelesen, Meldung ist von gestern, wird aber schon angezweifelt, gibt bei ughh.com einen ziemlich langen Thread dazu.

http://forums.undergroundhiphop.com/rea ... ID=1318870

:notsure:

Miami rapper Pitbull hopes 2005 will be a banner year, having recently landed a new endorsment deal with Sean John, along side P. Diddy, Lil Wayne, TI and Lloyd.

The bilingual rapper recently released a new single "Toma" featuring Lil Jon and spoke of his strong latin roots.

"When I was starting out in Miami, other rappers were afraid to speak Spanish," Pitbull told AllHipHop.com. "They thought it was corny. That's the reason that Luke signed me in '99, cause I did English and Spanish."

Pitbull stayed with Luke Skywalker Records until his contract expired and then decided to sign with TVT records.

With influences from Dade County, Atlanta, Bass, and Latin music Pitbull continues to think smart.

"TVT lets me do me," Pitbull said. "My approach is different. My style is versatile. I'm not pigeon holed as an artist."

On his debut TVT Records release M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue), which is approaching gold record sales, Pitbull worked with the Diaz Brothers who have been producing for him since 2001.

He also worked with producers Jim Johnson and his lablemate Lil Jon.

"Jon knows what the people want. If your music isn't playing in the clubs, you might as well stop making music," Pitbull said.

Rappers featured on the album are Trick, Fat Joe, Picalo, and Obie.

His vicious lyrics give him street credibility and the popularity needed to make it in today's industry.

"My goal is to rock n**gas in the north. At first they didn't want to let us [southern rappers] in, but we learned how to rap and now we're taking this shit over," he continued. "I can't wait to go to the Puerto Rican Day Parade, with a bunch of Chevys kitted up with different interiors, and show them how we do it in Miami.

Nochmal zur Klarstellung: J Dilla liegt nicht halbtot im Krankenhaus meldet allhiphop.com:

Zitat:
A rumor about J Dilla aka Jay Dee of Slum Village being in a coma has been declared false, his recording home Stones Throw Records confirmed Tuesday (Jan. 18).

"He is not in a coma, and his life is not in danger," Stones Throw said in a statement released to the media. "We spoke to his mother who was with him only hours after this rumor began to spread on Jan 17, and she confirmed that it was false."

Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson of The Roots apparently accidentally initiated the rumor Monday (Jan. 17) with a message board posting on the online community site OkayPlayer.com.

Thompson's comments were posted as news, despite being inaccurate, on several websites.

Questlove later attempted to explain his statement by insisting that Dilla was simply sick, not in a critical coma. But by Tuesday (Jan. 18), the famed Roots drummer had removed the posting.

Jay Dee disclosed in the March 2004 issue of Urb magazine that he has experienced kidney problems as a result of malnutrition.

The beatmaker stated, "What happened was that the doctor told me that I'd ruptured my kidney from being too busy and being stressed out and not eating right. He told me that if I'd waited another day, I might not have made it."

Dilla admitted that working vigorously on music was often the cause of his illness but said he plans to focus more on keeping his health in tact instead of over-working.

"Sometimes that fixation can be a good thing and sometimes it can be bad. There'd be days when I wouldn't eat at all because I'd be in the basement working all day," said Jay Dee. "This is definitely my second chance, my wakeup call. I still love the music, but I wouldn't put it first in my life. It's family first - and then everything else."

Nochmal ein paar Duck-Down News, ab April sollen drei Alben in drei Monaten erscheinen:

Zitat:
Bootcamp Clik Prepares To Bomb Hip-Hop Over 3 Months

Long time Hip-Hop staples Bootcamp Clik are preparing to release three new albums in three months, a time frame the group has labeled ‘Def Con 3.”

“The albums are going to drop back to back,” Dru Ha told AllHipHop.com. “We have Mark Ecko’s design team designing all of the artwork. The next three month’s are going to be crazy.”

From April until June, the camp will bomb fans with releases by Duckdown artists Sean Price, who will drop Monkey Barz, a collaboration between producer 9th Wonder and Buckshot named Chemistry and a new album, Reloaded, by Smif N Wessun.

According to Duckdown CEO Dru Ha, Sean Price’s album is slated to hit stores on April 26th, via Duckdown’s distribution only deal with Koch Records and features appearances by his BCC brethren.

In May, the label will release Chemistry, which came about after Duckdown CEO Dru Ha buzzed 9th Wonder, inquiring about production.

“I reached out to 9th about six months ago,” Dru Ha told AllHipHop.com. “He told me he was a big fan and he said ‘why don’t you bring some of the BCC down to North Carolina?’ He told us to come down and we did. I took Buck, Tek and Steele and Sean Price. 9th actually has production on all of their albums. When we got down there, 9th and Buck, they just linked and it was like a good match, so they ended up doing a whole album while they were down there.”

Smif-n-Wessun’s new album Reloaded is slated for a June and features a collaboration between the duo and fellow Brooklynites, Dead Prez on the track “Warriors Heart,” which was produced by Coptic Sounds.

“Basically [it’s about] the heart of a warrior, what we see as black men coming up, how we feel we succeeded even if the masses don’t feel we are successful in certain ways,” Tek said of the song. “We infiltrate like ‘[the book] The Spook who Sat by the Door’ to sneak a message in. We don’t want to be too preachy with the s**t.”

To support the albums, the BCC will announce tour dates in the United States and various European countries to support the album.

Hat der Doktor mal wieder ein Plagiat produziert und schamlos abgekupfert?

Zitat:
Madonna Sues Dr. Dre, Eve And Mary J. Blige

Legendary pop singer Madonna is reportedly suing R&B songstress Mary J. Blige, Aftermath producer Dr. Dre and rapper Eve for copyright infringement.

A publishing company claims that Blige's recent song "Not Today," featuring Eve and produced by Dre, too closely resembles Madonna's classic 1983 hit "Holiday."

According to court documents, the company alleges that parts of "Not Today," which was featured in the film "Barbershop 2" starring Eve and Ice Cube, includes several obvious instances of reproduction.

New York musicologist Judith Finell, an expert witness on copyright infringement, compared the two songs and concluded that "Not Today" is similar enough to
"Holiday" and warrants further investigation.

"Both the pitches and the rhythms sound closely related," Finell told the Associated Press. "I don't think they're identical, because Madonna's song is in what we call 'major key' and Mary J Blige's song is in a ‘minor key.’"

The publishers of Madonna's song could receive at least $15 million if the case goes to trial and jurors determine that "Not Today" sounds notably similar to "Holiday."

Pockets Linted / Rasco: Marco Polo kommt!

Guce & Messy Marv with “50 Explanations”

The streets remain silent no more. San Francisco, California Rap/Street legends Guce and Messy Marv unleash “50 Explanations.” Unlike recent lashes against 50 Cent, Guce & Messy Marv used a never before heard verse from the G-Unit general against himself.

According to the pair of Californians, the animosity popped off from 50's visit to San Francisco three years ago. When Messy Marv and Guce attempted to greet him, they claim that 50's bodyguards held them off.

"He came to San Francisco 20 cars deep in a bulletproof van," Messy Marv said. "We personally tried to get at the ni--a, and he was on some scared ass sh-t. But he's portraying to the masses that he's the hardest ni--a on earth. We don't respect that."

While the acrimony heightened with 50's "dry snitching" — "I seen him on BET saying all the punk sh-t, snitching on ni--as," Guce said, "and the industry let that sh-t slide, but we don't have the voice in the industry so there's not much we can do about that" — it was further fueled by the Game's boasts of self-made. "You should've heard this ni--a on TV the other night," Guce said. "'I created my own buzz;' you lying like f--k. [West Coast producer] Sean T made your beats, my ni--a Ghazi was loaning you money, with your broke ass. He owes a lot to the Bay."

While Guce and Messy Marv plan to release their Bullies Wit Fullys 3: The Infrastructure group album this summer, Marv is releasing his solo project February 15. The disc, Bandanas, Tattoos and Tongue Rings features guest appearances by Guce, Dead Prez, E-40 and Yukmouth.

"We aren't jumping on the bandwagon," Marv adds. "Everybody else is just doing it because everybody else is dissing [50 Cent]."

"We didn’t do this song to create a buzz. We sell our units without it– we could give a f-ck. We aren't going to make it a habit of dissing these ni--as," Guce maintains. "We're just going to get what we have to get off our chest. Ni--as bump into each other, it's on on-site; there's not going to be no talking, 'what's up ni--a,' there's not gonna be none of that. It is what it is; you don’t want it, shut your mouth and keep moving with your bodyguards. We're hungry out here; we're underdogs, we've got nothing to lose."

“50 Explainations” appears on Guce's upcoming album Pill Music, in stores March 29.

Memphis Bleek has been rapping professionally for almost a decade, yet as 2005 rolled around, he found out his career was just starting — at least according to Def Jam/ Roc-A-Fella boss Jay-Z.

"He was like, 'Forget everything you've done in the past. Your career starts now,' " Bleek said. "He just let me know it's a clean slate, 'You ain't got to worry.'

"I can have fun all over again," Bleek continued, noting that Jay's meaning of clean slate was figurative and literal, because he doesn't have to worry anymore about recouping money from his past albums. "I got my swagger back," he said.

Not surprisingly, Jay's pal Bleek survived the reshuffling at Roc-A-Fella (see "Jay-Z, Dame Dash Sell Roc-A-Fella Records; Jay Named Def Jam Prez") and very well may be the first artist on the roster — which he says also includes Freeway, Foxy Brown and the Young Gunz — to release something in 2005.

"I'm happy. I never pictured Jay being the president, running the rap game, but hey, more poster boards for me," Bleek said. "My album, you know, with all the switch-ups with the labels, that put me on the back burner till the smoke cleared. Now the smoke is clear, my boy is doing what he's doing, and I'm the first priority dropping. It's either me or Foxy, whoever finishes first. But I think I've got the jump on her because we just mixed my single."

Swizz Beatz produced the song, called "Is It Like That," and also appears on two other tracks on the record, which Memph plans to call 5,3,4. (Bleek said it's fitting that Swizz is behind his new first single, seeing as his career is starting all over again and Swizz produced Bleek's very first single, "Memph Bleek Is ...")

" 'If you could buy the bar, tell me is it like that? If you a pimp, tell them little shorties to get over here if it's like that. Is it like that? 'Cause we doing it like that'. That's how the whole song is," he said. "It's energy. The record is energy, so we definitely gonna be in the clubs."

Bleek said once he found out about Jay-Z's appointment, he immediately hit up his longtime friend and told Hova he wanted to get things crackin'.

"I was asking him, 'What we gonna do? The album is done, you got the position, I'm ready to go now. I don't wanna hold nothing,' " Bleek recalled. "His reply to me was being that he got the position and the album was done, let's just work on a jump-off — a monster single that we can put out and get 500 spins [on radio] off the top. I've got a solid album, I just needed something that's gonna bring it across to the people so they can understand that."

Despite his excitement at being the first artist to drop something on the new Roc-A-Fella, Bleek said he's still sorry to see the old Roc be dismantled.

"I'm gonna be all the way truthful. I try to act like I don't care or whatever, but c'mon, man, when I first was introduced to Dame [Dash] and [Kareem ] Biggs [Burke], it was a family thing. We ran this Roc-A-Fella thing as a family. To see that break up is like losing a second part of your family. They know everything about us, we know everything about them. It should never be where we're not down together. But that all comes back to loyalty. When things went wrong, we were supposed to correct it. We weren't supposed to go that far."

Even though he didn't want to see his family split in two, he said there was definitely no question of who he would roll with. "I was brought into this game off of loyalty, so I'mma stay loyal to my OG," he explained. "I could never cross him, not for no money, not for no chick, no nothing. It's always gonna be all good."

So good that Bleek's not even salty about Jay-Z not rapping on his album this time around.

"Nah, nah, man," Bleek said with a laugh. "He ain't getting on it. He's done with [rapping]. He said he's gonna do what Mase did, give it five years and come back on fire."

Member when Bone Thugs N Harmony was on top of things? Their records were selling everywhere and they had started side labels and the famous series of Mo Thugs compilations started. Volume II in particular had quite a few faces to show, the one stand out was the white face of artist who went by the name of Powder. Most people probably thought the usual he dropped off the face of the earth and probably hung up the game of rap. Well he is just like his album titled "Back From Tha Grave" and currently recording his first full length album and is set to release it sometime in 2005. We will bring you more info on features and exact release date soon.
