Trigga Da Don
Not too many people may have heard of Trigga Da Don yet – introduce yourself to our readers.
Trigga Da Don is what I would like to call my alter ego. However, Trigga Da Don is EVOLVING. You may have never heard of Trigga Da Don, but there is a little of Da Don in everybody. It’s all about getting along in life, learning that in order to be a success in this life, you have to learn to adapt – to don many hatz. And Trigga does just that.
You’ve recently released your latest solo effort “From Da Midst O’ Shadowz” Is the mood of the album as dark as the title promises?
The title isn’t actually “dark.” The title is named “From Da Midst O’ Shadowz”, because I’ve arrived from a dark place. I’ve emerged from the midst into a new way of thinking. I’ve been there and done that, literally. In fact, I’m responding to this interview, all bandaged up, from taken three bullets last month, over something I did several years back when I was running around doing and acting stupid. Feel me?
Tell me more about the record…
A few of the beats are my own, however, I have beats on the CD from a cat named Ansane, Track Bangaz, and Toxic, just to name a few. And I feature Ya Boi Theo, Dave Moe, and Chinaman – all residing (except for Chinaman – R.I.P.) in Peoria, Illinois.
Did you release any records before “From Da Midst O’ Shadowz”?
Not, on the solo level, but I’ve either produced or co-produced about 8 local artists.
What’s going on with Lethal Weapon Entertainment? Are there any other artists signed to the label?
As of right now, I am the only artist actually signed to the label, but we are working with a few artists such as Q-Ball, T-Fatz, Ya Boi Theo, Preacher Boy, Dust as well as a few others.
Your myspace-site says that you want to expand your work in the near future. So what’s the current state of facts with that?
Well, currently, I’m working on the production of Q-Ball’s album, but I also have a clothing line called Lethal Gear that I’d like to get up and running, as well as setting the stage to present Central Illinois with its very first Underground Music Awards and a magazine called Da 4-1-1 dedicated to the advancement of underground artists and their music.
You’re from Peoria/Illionis. To be honest with you: I’ve never heard of this town before. What’s going down over there?
Same things that go on anywhere else, dawg. Per capita, the murder-rate down here is pretty high. We’re about a hour-and-a-half, southwest of Chicago, but we’re probably only about 225,000 people, or something-like that. I believe we’re the second or third largest city in Illinois.
Does Peoria have a mentionable rap scene?
Hell no!! Mentionable?! But that’s what catz like me are working towards creating.
Rapmusic from Chi-Town got hyped alot not too long ago – did you profit from this boom in on way or another?
I have a couple partners up there that I’ve worked with. In fact, one my guys used to deal with Kanye West. But my profits from that is minimal.
When will we be able to hear more hot stuff from Trigga Da Don? Are you already working on something new?
I’m definitely already working on some new material, as well as the MidWest Invasion Mixtape that’ll be out within the next few weeks. We got peepz from all over the MidWestern Region: Chicago, Peoria, Minneapolis, Gary etc. who’ll be featured on there.
I think that’s it. It’s still enough time to get some final words out to the people.
